Storage of Moderator. Is it a "relevant component part" According to Firearms Act 1968 (as amended)?

Have put some camo tape around my moderator to reduce noise from branch pings. The camo tape holds moisture. I never put a gun away wet.

Can I leave my moderator out to dry while I go out, or does it qualify as a component part of a firearm?

My reading of section 57 is that it isn't a component part?

Each of the following items is a relevant component part in relation to a lethal barrelled weapon or a prohibited weapon—

(a)a barrel, chamber or cylinder,
(b)a frame, body or receiver,
(c)a breech block, bolt or other mechanism for containing the pressure of discharge at the rear of a chamber,
but only where the item is capable of being used as a part of a lethal barrelled weapon or a prohibited weapon.]

Thanks

Unless it’s on an air gun your moderator is listed on your FAC, so technically has the same legal status as your rifle, and the ‘secure storage’ condition on your FAC applies. So no, you can’t leave out to dry while you go shopping!

Shotgun moderator is different, but I don’t know what the rules are.

Thanks. I used as an excuse not to go shopping! I've found the relevant section in legislation now - right there on the link I shared.

laws an ass it still is a mess around mods ,when you can buy online parts to build one ?????

Now on FAC over here in NI and apparently magazines are going the same way!

Chocolate and fire guard spring to mind.
If you thought the Scottish airgun licence debacle (there's probably thousands still not on ticket). Somebody must really like wasting FLD's time

Indeed, you could lose your FAC for not locking up what is effectively a glorified baked bean tin.
That is how I'd be inclined to behave with them, just in case.

However, I still think there's every reason to believe that when they're not actually 'an accessory to' a S1 firearm they are actually not a restricted item at all.

So shotgun mods dont have to be locked up ? ...
Under the Firearms Act, I think the only mods subject to S1 of control are those that are actually 'an accessory to' a S1 firearm.

The subject matter is storage of a moderator not purchase 🤔
The condition wording on my FAC reads as attached. The conditions 4a & 4b apply, in that if theft ever occurred whilst not secured, you'd have a heck of a job to explain why it unsecured and taken whilst in your possession...

You also have 7 days in which to notify the Chief Constable of said loss or theft..

Given the ease and number of FAC revocations, anything but honesty and reasonable precautions to secure the items entered on your FAC could lead to revocation... no-one plans to be burgled, but there's enough scrotes out there all to willing to do it... I wouldn't want to be the one calling my FEO or FLD explaining items entrees on my FAC have been taken from my home... I don't think I was cleaning it would wash... as you wouldn't have been burgled and it taken if you were actually cleaning it..

Either way the OP has his answer. It would be interest to see if the OP and others have the same condition, albeit it may be a different number?
