I applied for my shotgun licence about a month ago the FAO has interviewed my character witness. He is coming round to see me next week should i get a gun cabinet at this point or wait to make sure i get a licence first ???

If you have it now they can inspect it when they visit, so long as you fix it suitably in an appropriate place.

Make sure you get a big one - there's a lot of 3 gun cabinets for sale!

As Apache said get one now mate cause when i applied for mine i questioned that what if they dont grant me one and i have bought and fixed one it is waste of time and money, they replyed well we will not grant you one unless you have one fitted. And if you do have one fitted before they come it shows your seriouss about it cause they will only have to come baack out to inspect it.
Buy they biggest one you can fix cause like i was told if you buy a small one like three rifle's you will prob buy a biiger one soon'er or later once your eager grows to own more fire arms and your experiance will endever you to stalk more quarry. I understand you mentiomed shotguns

One of my mates is selling a 20g over & under & a 12g side by side for next to nothing (giving shooting up) cant understand why!!.If i get my get my shotgun licence i`ll look into getting my fac later (or sooner).

It's worthwhile going Coterminous, it'll save you a few quid in the long run.

( once you apply for your grant, you then apply )

Hi Steviemac,
If you have a cabinet already, unless you are CERTAIN its going to fitted properly, wait until the FEO interviews you and ask his advice. I am sure the guys down in K division will be very reasonable and will not mind having to call again to ensure cabinet is up to standard and fitted to the struture of the building. Details of the type and capacity of the cabinet will be noted and kept on file.
I had a story related to me where the cabinet was poorly fixed to a gyproc wall inside built in wardropes. The door of the cabinet was lying open and with one hand the FEO tugged on the door and 2 small spring toggles came through the gyproc and the entire cabinet came away from the wall!
The potential certificate owner looked at the cabinet and the FEO and said "They Barratt builders are a bunch of cowboys!"
Good luck with your interview anyway.

hi i bought a 8 gun cabinet thought it was big put 4 rifles in it wouldnt like to put 8 in it.When the FAC inspector came he told me to go to bq and get a £10 safe for the amunition?

This is good advice.
Demonstrates a good level of responsibility on your part. Get the cabinet, then wait and ask the officer's opinion on where / how to fix it. Have a couple of options in mind to discuss with him.

Sorry, I meant to include this in my previous post.
I got caught out when I bought my first cabinet as I didn't think of the difference between a gun ie shotgun, and a rifle, normally with a scope fitted. My 5 gun cabinet takes 2 scoped rifles comfortably and 3 at a push.
