.22 creedmoor

Hi all, im planning on building a .22 creedmoor this year. I was wanting to know shat dies people are using as ive heard you cant get the redding S type dies for it.
Thanks
Tom

Would imagine that whoever had such a thing would have custom dies made for it as well which would involve the price of the die and re size reamer

S Type dies (bushing dies) are easy enough to make by any competent machinist

Plenty options to have one made. I use a LE WIlson 6.5 CM bushing die, and changed the bushing down. For seating I tried a 22br Forster micro seater just because I had one, and it works fine.

All good info guys, thanks. I see redding make just a full length sizing die, now that i expand my neck to set tension that could be a option to.

Im not totally set on the creedmoor, my renewal was up a couple months ago there so i put one on. Ive not looked into the 22dasher, ive always thought the 6 dasher was a good round.

Can I ask what the appeal of the .22 Creedmoor is? Purely out of curiosity. I imagine it would excel as a short-action varmint cartridge, but wouldn't the 22-250 be a very similar setup? I know a similar cartridge has been tried in the form of the 5mm/35, but I don't think that really caught on? Not trying to be clever, I genuinely am interested to find out more about the thinking behind it :thumb:

I built mine on the basis I was using a 22br running 77 Sierra TMK’s at around 2900. Very accurate rifle, but it’s use was mainly for vermin and I wanted to run them a lot faster to improve balistics. . After a bit of research it was a toss up for me between the 22-243 middlestead or a 22 creed. The 22-250 on paper was a lot slower. I went with the creed basically as I also have a 6.5cm and can use the dies I already had.

It’s an all out foxing/vermin cartridge in my opinion and a bit of fun. 1k-1200 rounds of barrel life. But that’s what I wanted one for, and that’s a lot of dead vermin. Quite a few keeper I know are jumping on the craze and loving it.

For the reloaders among us it’s case stretch, the 22-250 needs trimming every reload due to the tapper. Also a bit more case capacity and the option on SRP or LRP.

Currently looking at re-barrelling my 22-250 in 22 CM but struggling to find the brass as I want the correct head stamp not necked down 6/6.5 CM brass.

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining that for me. Makes sense :thumb:

Theres a few reasons i want to go for it over a 22-250, i want to run a heavier bullet to buck the wind more on the open hill where i work and yeah case life as i reload all my rounds. Not having to trim loads back each time is a great help. My night rifle is a 22-250, this will be replacing my .243 as a everyday work rifle.

If you try magazine feeding .22-250 out of an AICS mag the case taper can cause miss feeds with a full magazine , the 22creedmoor is not as tapered and feeds normally. Big plus if using aftermarket chassis/ AICS mags.

Others have said this but I have never had an issue, I’m running a tier one AICS bottom metal and AI 5 round mag.

What bullet have you got in mind Tom?

I was going to have a 22creed done for my blaser but it’s just to much of a ball ache being so new and stuff when the 22 dasher or 22br or 22-250 ai give you more than you could ever really need in the real world but we all like the new things if you need to
Shoot that far stepping up to a 6mm could possibly be better you can get some lead free bullets that are 80gr with a bc of 0.670 in 6mm that would be awsome I think

The bonus of the 22 CM is not needing to fire form too! 👍🏼

Yes that’s if you can get the brass if not you still have to neck it down

You only have to fire form the ai

The dasher is just necked Down so it the br

Running if you want unltimate flat hard hitting and short barrel life like the 22creed go for a 22-243 or a 6-284

Does the 22-243 outperform the 22 CM? I would have though the CM has more case capacity but am not sure?
