Using a mod on 2 rifles

I’ve currently got a .308 with a Wildcat Evolution moderator. I’m in the process of acquiring a .270, and was considering using the same mod but buying an additional .270 baffle for it.

Is it a possible to do this, as I obviously don’t want to have the same mod logged twice on my certificate but for different calibres?

Cheers.

If you dont get a slot for the 270 you cant use a mod on it
^ This.
A mod listed for a rifle of a given calibre is for authority to acquire and use on that rifle. If, like me, you have a mod covering a few calibres then, at renewal, you need to keep the authority to use for each calibre. Personally I would also keep the option open to acquire a dedicated one for each calibre. Usual caveat of how each licensing area applies and uses wording applies.

good evening, thames valley police removed my permission for a moderator for my 6.5x55 and told me i did not need to have a seperate moderator and to just use the one from my 243 or the 308.i did question why it was being removed and the feo said it was one less fire -arm on my fac. i did ask thames valley police firearms department directly as i thought if i fitted the moderator on my 6.5x55 i had to have a 6.5x55 moderator on my fac BUT the firearms department said no i can use an existing moderator on any rifle it would fit!

There you go. As I said, usual caveat applies of how each licensing area interprets HO guidance and uses wording.

Surely a letter or email to your FLD explaining your requirements will cover you, it is then on record should there be any further queries.

I had to do this as my 22-250 Mod would fit my 243 so I enquired with South Wales police and they then put an entry on my firearms ticket that the 22-250 Mod can also be put onto my 243.

Yes, I get your point but I’m guessing that different areas will deal with it in different ways.
They do, hence why an explanatory note to your FLD will clarify things.
Just today I got a call from my FEO concerning my son’s FAC grant and during the discussion I was able to clarify our requirements and likewise the FEO was able to clarify their take on things. We both ended the conversation with complete clarity on the whole scenario and I now feel confident that both my son and myself will be operating within the law.
It is such a simple thing to do but people seem to see their FLD as being there purely to thwart their wishes.
Maybe it’s just my local area (Cleveland Police), but I have always found them to be both approachable and blessed with common sense.

Yes, I agree with you and I’ve always found it easy to communicate with and deal with my local area (West Yorkshire). I never cease to be amazed though by the degree of variation (no pun intended) that I hear about and read about between the different areas.

I don't have that on my ticket. I just have the mods listed as Centrefire Moderator with no serial number, calibre, makers name or anything. No moderator is tied to any particular rifle on the cert. I can and do use the same can across different rifles/calibres.

Yes, as I said already the practice and wording on the FAC varies from area to area.

This is the first time in 10 years or more that i have had 2 mods, when mu 15 year old ase jet z snuffs it i’ll get the 270 re threaded the same as the 7x57!

Im not going to inform the FEO, i dont need to!

Christ sake are people that worried they might put a foot wrong?!

The big problem with this is, people do the stupid thing and go for calibre specific mods, which is the biggest con out there!

1 x 30 cal mod does all.

And saves you a fortune £££££

I agree!!

In all the times I have been stopped by the police when out shooting I haven’t even had my FAC checked let alone the fine details!

Just get on with it! 👍🏼
