Using a mod on 2 rifles

Jesus man, 40 comments on a threaded bit of metal that shouldn't even be a requirement to be on an FAC... Just make sure you've got authority for a mod and actual possession a mod then crack on

You need to apply for a moderator if you wish to possess a moderator to use on your rifle/rifles, simple as that.
You cannot legally possess a moderator for use on firearms without having it on your FAC (other than a fixed one that is an integral part of the rifle).
My point exactly , a specific moderator is granted for a specific (be that1,2 or3 in number) rifle, technically you are not able to use a moderator that is not authorised for that rifle, so if you have an issue with a moderator you cannot just use one off another rifle .

Why not?
Moderators are not restricted to a single rifle. A moderator is a moderator and is listed separately and can be used in conjunction with several rifles just as long as it is compatible.

Sorry but who ever told you that is talking absolute shite!

If you want to fork out an unnecessary £250-£300 for another moderator you dont need, more fool you!

No, they are not.

Let’s say you have a .308 with a .30 cal mod. You want a 6.5 Creedmoor. You only have to apply for that rifle. The moderator is ostensibly suitable for both calibres so use it as such. It shouldn’t be conditioned for a specific rifle.

Now if you have a .243 and a 6mm moderator on ticket, and want a .308, then you you will have to apply for a mod as well as your current one won’t be suitable, purely bore dimension being the reason.

This is why some people only have one moderator for several CF calibres. This is why things like Evo bridges sell well on their own, so the same mod can be used with several rifles that could all have different thread pitches.

I agree totally with this and share your sentiment about mods shouldn't being required as a FAC entry. There's probably more variation (no pun intended) about how this requirement is interpreted and written on FACs from area to area than other items or conditions.

I was told by W. Yorks FLO to apply for a mod for each rifle in order to cover use. In practice I use my 6.5 mod on that calibre and on my .223. Have a mod for my .308 that would cover all three and I wouldn't hesitate to use it with the appropriate thread adapter.

Just not true.

And not all mods have serials. NVN....

I have a .24 mod which used to be on a 22/250. Its stamped as such by the proofhouse - (a racket) - its on my ticket as 6mm, but I can use it with any firearm of a suitable calibre on my ticket on ranges or land on which I have authority to shoot. My 22cf mods are interchangeable between 223 and 22/250.

Read conditions of fac.

Never seen a mod conditioned for use on a specific rifle - just listed on the FAC….

Has anyone actually got wording that says XXX moderator for use on XXX rifle??

If they are on your FAC you can use them with any rifle it will work with!

Regards,
Gixer.

The mod isn’t necessarily conditioned to a particular rifle but you must have the rifle conditioned to be used with a moderator. I have used a .30 mod on both .243 and 30-06. This was confirmed by local FLO.

What is the specific wording that states you must have the rifle conditioned for use with a moderator?

There is no 'conditioning' ...

If you are out and about and the Police question you they will look at your rifle and call in its make and serial number to check that you have authority to posess, if it has a moderator on it they will also ask the office to check that you have authority for that too.

If the answer is 'yes, he has a rifle (or several) and a moderator (single or several) on his FAC then all is well.
If you had three rifles and 3 mods on you when questioned as long as you have 3 and 3 on your FAC you are ok. If you had 3 rifles and only 1 moderator on your FAC but 3 rifles and 3 mods on your person you are in trouble.
You can have 10 rifles and 1 moderator on your FAC and will only get into trouble if you are stopped/questioned/examined by a Police person if you have more on your person than you have on your certificate.

All of my moderators are "variable" calibre, with an "unknown" identification number.
Every time I appy for a rifle I always apply for a moderator.

I would be very surprised (and disappointed in the FLD) if anyone's FAC has a condition that says anything like:

" The (insert calibre) moderator (insert serial number) shall only be used on (insert calibre) rifle (insert serial number).

I have two calibre-specific mods on my FAC- proofed and calibres marked on them - and they each fit on any of the three deer rifles I have.

As others have said, I can use any mod on any rifle I want and my FAC permits that, by default.

The only combo that would be potentially unsafe (not illegal) would be to put the .243 mod on the .308 rifle.
