Imagine being threatened with criminal charges because the cops haven't renewed in time placing someone in illegal possession of (a) firearm(s) and they won't issue a Sect 7!

You won't be in illegal possession if you submit your renewal within the designated time frames. Also if your late they will inform you so you will have time to arrange other storage.

I sent my coterminous certificate application in a month ago in June. I phoned to see if I could drive over and drop it in to the Police head Quarters of Gwent Police (which I have always previously done) I got an answerphone message saying that ”due to COVID”, they are not answering any phone calls. I drove over anyway, prefering to hand deliver it but the main reception was closed to members of the public. I sent it via special delivery.
My cheque has been cashed today, my certificates are due for renewal in September. I wonder if I will get my renewal in time…. Doubtful now from what I have read. I had a letter from Gwent police advising that the application be put in at least 8 weeks in advance (which it was) or it would not be considered.
I am hoping I will be pleasantly surprised!

yer great idea make it as expensive as possible for anybody to join the sport, that should really help the future of shooting. Why your at it let’s make a fishing licence £250 and a driving licence £1000 and the need for a medical report, that should get some of the idiots off the road, and a passport what £1500 etc etc.
The gun certificates fees have always reflect that society at large benefits from them, personally i don’t care if they just abolish the need for them, no wait or GP report then.

If it guarantees that I will be free from serious illness for 10 years I'd happily pay £ 250, otherwise the medical is of no use either to shooter nor police
We.'re not far from that figure now for two five year tickets and two medical fees, personally .£25 per year is agreeable to me if they sort their act out, which they won't , as they aren't accountable for poor service
Does the current one guarantee it for five years?

possibly just depends on what the GP report costs, which can be from free to what ever the GP wants but now with a cap of £60 if using the likes of medcert.
Then the interesting situation come renewal if the marker is on your medical records then you should not need another GP report, no marker and the process is a one day in five year MOT, or rather a backside covering exercise for the Chief Constable.

I totally agree regarding the marker and not needing another report, even before it was requested I was told by a GP, if they thought you were a danger to yourself or others they would contact the police, that was over twenty years ago

And it’s not 25 a year, it’s 250 year one. They will never go to 10 year certificates.

People will either want it or not, of not more room for better time frames for those who do want it!
But for the £250 a better system would have to be put into place.

Would also put a stop to the winging they have waited so long, christ sake doesn’t anyone have patience anymore?.

For £250 a better system wont be put in place, you are very naive to think that it would. They used that reasoning wast time they increased the fees, low and behold, things got worse!
The more you post the more it’s obvious you generally don’t have a clue about anything outside shooting a few deer.
