Roe rut 2022

Not with roe, I have never noticed a change in smell or taste, they don't seem to 'run' like red/sika/fallow males. Although they get knackered still seem to have some vegetation in their stomachs when gralloched. I don't have much experience of the two smaller species.

I would say the roe bucks get a sweaty/sweet smell it's not strong but they definitely smell different in the rut. But no real change in the taste of the venison but they loose condition and fat.

Going down to large estate later this week to see what's going on. Usually its early August, but will be interesting to see if there is any action. Plus they have started to harvest on the estate, so less cover...............hopefully.

We have not seen much activity as of yet. We are not far from you I think.

Well I'm currently directly under Gatwick flight path and nothing coming to the squeak. Maybe they can't hear it !!

Took this younger buck earlier tonight, he was settled with a youngish doe, not chasing or showing much interest.
At the same time a couple of fields away I watched a more mature buck chasing a doe around like a mad thing.
This week should be good………

I am back on the rigs end of this month, the rut will, as always, start as I leave and finish when I return.

I feel your pain. Same thing seems to happen to me every rut.

I would second that sweet smell. Not really noticed a change in tast but then again I dont eat that much.

Guided a mate for his first ever roe buck, we watched the buck covering a doe a few times then followed them in a plantantion where finnaly we had a shot opportunity.
My mate dropped the buck on the spot with a neck shot.

Rutting well in Northamptonshire tonight left him do his thing still nurturing them on this patch nice to see heathy kids and his doe

Rutting now here in South Hampshire. Three bucks on the field last night, biggest being led about by the doe, two cull bucks milling around. One of them came into call and shot.
