Roe rut 2022

I was out late last night in Angus , not a buck in sight , plenty of doe and calf

Second week in August usually gets the best results in my area.

Bucks will certainly be growing restless now, and very possibly in company with a doe.

Rut started here in Durham, was out last night foxing and watched a buck hard on the rump of a doe .

I've seen no signs of it in my part of Co Durham.
Also Cumbria on Friday and Alnwick Saturday, no sign of rutting at all, only does came to the call too. In fact no sign of any bucks at the mo.
With the muggy weather, it shouldn't be long though.

Just checked my trail camera and it had a buck in hot pursuit of a doe, this was last Monday

Took a video of the first action i've seen this season yesterday morning.
Also saw 10ish other bucks that were doing their own thing but they have started here.

I am back on the rigs end of this month, the rut will, as always, start as I leave and finish when I return.

I'm glad it's not just me that misses out due to work. It's a pain in the back side having to work for a living.

Many say they do but can't say i've ever really noticed.
Really just keep the younger beasts for the freezer nowadays and wouldn't keep a rutting beast but others who do will know better.

Must be getting older, talk of the Roe rut and Christmas stuff in the shops gets earlier each year

I saw a buck chasing a doe this morning, and put it down the warm weather as the rut doesn't usually get going here until later in July, and early August. Oddly (and you can't see it on the video), the doe still had her kid nearby. For those curious on location, this is south Buckinghamshire.

No rut as yet on the Surrey/Sussex border, roe not interested in the call, but muntjac were coming in left, right and centre...
Managed a couple of muntjac does, so not a bad morning.

Not with roe, I have never noticed a change in smell or taste, they don't seem to 'run' like red/sika/fallow males. Although they get knackered still seem to have some vegetation in their stomachs when gralloched. I don't have much experience of the two smaller species.

I hear the bucks are moving, checking out the doe territories but no action seen as yet.

As it's been so hot they were seeing more movement at night as you'd expect but cooling down now so I'd say next week will start to bring more sign of it

Going down to large estate later this week to see what's going on. Usually its early August, but will be interesting to see if there is any action. Plus they have started to harvest on the estate, so less cover...............hopefully.

I saw a buck chasing a doe early this morning. The buck then mounts the doe. A kid (presumably born 2022) looks on and can be seen in the video.
