Roe rut 2022

I know is early, but I already heard people on various groups claiming that the rut has started in their areas, so I’ll kick this one off.

I won’t expect anything to happen before the last week of July on my ground, let us know when the rut starts on your patch !

Nothing in Somerset yet on my ground but the younger boys are becoming a little less cautious and are beginning to follow the girls around - nothing responding to any call yet (although I am only squeaking very occassionally when dog walking, not when out and armed).

Weather has been all over the shop so I think perhaps it will be a bit later this year. But then I know very little - just my inexpert observations

I watched a buck determinedly following a doe the other evening. He certainly wasn’t going to let her out of his sight.

I’d not be surprised if it was early. NZ ruts where early this year. Yes I know it’s a little bit south. But you never can tell eh.

Saw a nice buck following a scent trail last night, but couldn't get anywhere near him for fallow does. Bl**dy things were everywhere. But he (and they, eventually) will make a mistake..

I was out last night, weather was warm and muggy, had to take the jacket off in the high seat. 9.45pm a doe burst out of the wood chased by a young buck. The buck was hyped up, his head was decorated with quite a volume of green ferns. He pranced around her a while then they both settled down to feed. Stayed there about twenty minutes then slowly sauntered off together.

I got the Fox I was waiting for.

Last week of July is on usually on my patch.
Shot a silver medal couple of years ago, on the 27th of July, coming to the call like a train.

Have had a young buck chasing a doe about 2 weeks ago, none of the bigger lads have been bothered yet

Started very early around here last year - hard chasing and coming to the call from second week of July.

Phenology of everything is very mixed up this year, so not going to predict it at all.

Took this lad at the edge of dark last night. He crashed straight into a block of woodland & dropped in a ditch. Took us nearly 2 hours to find him & he'd only made it 50 yards. He had his head stuck to the back of doe when we saw him, quick squeeze on the butalo & he broke off & turned to us. He definitely only had one thing on his mind
