He is doing exactly what a lot of other members are doing - relaying his differing experiences in the field - many of which are very interesting. Get a hold of yourself man - maybe you should re-read your post and reflect on the tone and content?

What are you - a school teacher?

It amuses me that things we took for granted when we were growing up have been given a label and become a commodity. Adults are paying to be taught how to play the games that they should have played when they were kids. It's a funny old world, and a bit sad.

It is odd, agreed. There’s a young chap who does ‘bushcraft’ ray mears type stuff in the woods down the lane from me, most days during the school holidays. At first I thought it was sad that kids don’t learn this from parents or other kids any more but I’ve come round to the opinion that it is better than parents who didn’t grow up in the countryside are paying someone to teach their kid to do these things that should come naturally - hunting, building dens and fires, playing chicken with knives ( he probably doesn’t teach that!).

As these kids now, in 30 years time, might then teach their children the skills. It’s a shame people don’t have the childhood many of us did but good that at least some of them are getting the experience; albeit safely and managed by an adult, not their older brothers or friends. I bet they don’t have a gypsy boy shooting a pellet gun at the base of 12b cartridges wedged in tree forks on these courses. Halcyon days of youth…

It also explains why genuine fieldcraft is a dying art, and why we now have a new "thing" called bushcraft, which always seems to take place within spitting distance of a large 4x4, and only at weekends.
Bushcraft:
1. Erect tarp.
2. Gather dead standing (and cut up with Laplander folding saw).
3. Light fire with ferro rod.
4. Make pot hanger from hazel using an Alan Wood/Ray Mears bushcraft knife clone.
5. Brew tea
6. Go home
7. Repeat 1 - 6

Perhaps a tad harsh old thing. Surely anything that brings townies people out into our glorious countryside can only be good? IMHO If they go home with any increased awareness of anything to do with the countryside then surely that must be to our advantage and perhaps even be encouraged?

Thats a very narrow minded view of what bushcraft is, its such a broad skill base one could never become a master of it

More a comment on Bushcraft You-Tube vids. That said I really enjoyed the early ones from MCQ Bushcraft:

One could also argue that 'bushcraft' has such a broad definition now that it is pretty much impossible to say what it is or isn't.

Yeah I suppose glamping could come under that umbrella too lol, for me a test of bushcraft knowledge would be make a cup of tea in the woods using only you're knife , the skill set level to do this would be of a high standard, or spend a week in the woods with only you're knife and procure fire, water , food and shelter which again you have to be very skilled to accomplish this task, and then there is the other side to this going camping putting up a tarp and lighting a fire with a ferro rod and making a pot hanger out of sticks, both are bushcraft just at different levels, its upto the individual what level he or she wants to attain and nothing wrong with either 🔥🔥

The last thing we want is more townies in the countryside, remember lock down?
The buggers were everywhere.

Oh dear! Speaking as an ex-townie (50 years ago) I could take offence but in the spirit of SD - none taken!
I fear that with the way the world is going you may be living in a bit of a vacuum - like it or not the latest “advance“ is coming as town dwellers have suddenly realised that they do not need to live in towns and cities, rather t’internet and C19 have shown that there is indeed (a working) life outside the concrete jungle and indeed employers too now see a way of avoiding the expense of providing office accommodation and all the ancillary costs. If in doubt ask any rural Estate Agent - my good friend was in France for 10 days - on return there were 10 messages on her answering machine asking if she was thinking of selling!
Soooo brace yourself fella!

Good morning, I’m well used to dealing with members of the public while out and about, most of them are fine, some are less than polite and a few are genuine assholes.
Which would mirror our community pretty accurately, if you wish to revise your stance to “offended” feel free to do so you’ve now qualified on 2 counts (no offence or personal comment intended but its a free country..mostly).
However if you would like to upgrade your status from “offended” to “anxious” you should immediately contact the police and report the matter. You may be wasting your time, I suspect it’ll be a long long time before the Garda become woke enough to respond, unlike your wide awake UK and NI Police who are undoubtedly current leaders in the fields of hate crime and mental anguish.
My comment was aimed at all those who were upset and angry when their particular little slices of heaven were invaded by legions of the great unwashed during the lockdowns.
The sad truth is that we don’t want any more people parading around the countryside, we like it peaceful, private and all to ourselves.
At least I do.

Quite agree. Being the devil's advocate one could argue that standing on a peg while the local peasantary drive game birds toward you is also cruel, inhumane, etc.

but oh so much fun, especially when they could be beaten and thrown out of their tide cottages and daughters ravaged up at the big house which was a honour of course. Ah those were the days when men were er men and girlies said thank you sir.

Oh dear,”dealing” with members of the public is not for me. I much prefer to greet/engage with or even (gosh- just imagine) stop and pass the time of day. You should try it some time, your world and perhaps theirs may be the better for it.
And bashing of the police forces across your beautiful country and mine at this time of day is really not for me but I do hope that in this case at least you feel the better for it. I can only assume you have good reasons for so doing but best perhaps that we draw a discreet veil …….
Continue to enjoy your particular ivory tower my friend.
