Scope recommendations for 17 hmr

Looking at a new scope for my 17 hmr. Considering a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50 Swarovski Habicht 4-12x50 and Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50. Not concerned in first/last light capability just the best bang for buck glass for day work. Exit pupil a factor for aging eyes? Anything else worth considering? 50 objective the maximum I want and not interested in target turrets just point and shoot. Budget probably around £400-£500

Am using Meopta Artemis 7x50 in ma Annie 1517 it old scope fine reticule but mint on the rabbits
Have a look at meopta scopes you won’t be disappointed
Meopta a great shout. Have looked at a few of the Meopro line also. How do you find the 7x fixed for sighting in at 100 yards?

I've used a Leupold VX like the one you mentioned for years on my Anschutz 17HMR and found it to be ideal. It holds zero indefinitely and works well with a Pard. A very good scope for the 17.
Good to hear. Funny the Leupold I'm looking at has side focus to. Not critical that it works with NV but a bonus

The longer I'm in this game the more averse I'm becoming to 'fancy' scope features. I don't use NV so side focus is just a PITA to me...as are 10 levels of illuminated ret, overly busy reticles, and turrets that you need the manual at hand for every time you shoot.

I'm soon going to be moving my Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10x50 onto a new
22lr or 17hmr. You might be surprised at how good they are for point and shoot...and you have a lot left over from your budget for other gear!

My quest continues for a straightforward, reasonably priced 2.5-10 ish x 56 scope for the .308. The s&b klassik is ffp which I'm not a fan of. Must not be the sort of thing our US cousins use as a vortex have nothing similar.

Sorry, I digress. Good luck with your search 🙂

The VXIII is ideal and won't break the bank. Used one on my 223 and sorry I sold it now. The one with the "Varmint" bullet drop compensation reticle. Nice and uncluttered, handy BDC markings (find the most appropriate mag for your bullet drop), fit and forget. Surprisingly good optics for very little money and a fairly light scope. Job done.

Not a thing wrong with Vortex. I have a 2-7x35 Diamondback on a little Marlin 795 and love that scope. Crystal clear through the mag range, wide FOV and great simple reticle

Big thing with Leupold is the "proper" lifetime warranty, has to count for something that. Underated scopes generally over here but people are catching on. Have my eye on a VX-III currently and ticks alot of boxes👍🏻

The Artemis 7x50 is great out to 100 yards plus
But about 130/40 yards is all al push the .17 mind am using 20 grain hp which buck the wind rather well
Got ir reticule 7x50 on ma 595 in 222 cracking set up for fox 🦊 & roe thumbs up for meopta

130/140 yards is that it? Must be something wrong with yours for I was always told it's a 250 yard fox destroyer therefore .223/22-250/.243 were no longer reuqired🤭

I've got a Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50 on my .17HMR. It's great. It's a cut above many of the scopes generally used for rimfires (and to be honest, it was surplus from previously being on my .223). And the fact that they don't make them anymore and they are at the lower end of the Zeiss price range, yet still quality means you can get one for reasonable money.

The HMR can stretch it's legs out to a fair old distance, but whatever that distance is, be it 120 or 200 yards (gotta be pretty still, weather-wise for that) one thing that will cope is a Duralyt scope.

Lightstream 4.5-14x44 FFP AO Rifle Scope or Delta same thing different reticule. Let me know if you are interested I have collected too many to the vermin rifles I have as favourite scope…

Great feedback, can't say I've ever read anything negative about the Duralyt👍🏻
