British Midland Gun in .270 Winchester

It was a very light rifle and in .270 with no mod used to flip a bit. The stock was nice with the rosewood cap on the pistol grip with a white spacer between. It had a bit of Monte-Carlo and was a high polished beech - not walnut.
What you describe with the rosewood nose cap, white line spacers, Monte-Carlo stock and skip line checkering would have been a 1200 Safari.

Indeed the stock looked just like the 1200 Safari but the fore end had that tapered, fluted edge and it was definitely beech not walnut. I really do wish I still had it as it was my first stalking rifle and bagged me many 'firsts'. Many would completely disagree but I see the CZ 557 - of which I now have two of in .243 and .308 as a similar tool in that it is robust - accurate - reliable, and the 'Lux' model is pretty darn sexy.
