Firearms renewal and grant anyone doing anything about the generally abysmal turnround ?

Could those people who have responded saying their 'experience has been great', please provide the county they live in? It would be interesting to see if individuals that live within the same county are experiencing different outcomes.

Thanks
Gwent

Not so, it is the establishment and the general public who benefits, and in all fairness they should shoulder the cost!
😂😂 the establishment and the public could vote to stop publicly owned guns if they wanted within a click of the fingers!

It will only take another public shooting from a legal gun owner and shite will proper hit the fan and that will be the end of it!

Loosing money hand over fist!

I certainly wouldn’t want to take it on as i viable business thats for sure, you would be bankrupt before your first 5. Years was up!
Yes no way does the price of the certificate cover the cost of the admistration of the process. In addition the licensing does more than just grants renewals and variations.

Therefore it makes no difference whether we pay a fair price or a king's ransom. What is imperative is that we stop all this rear guard reactive stuff and start challenging the popular assumptions that the antis promote that have hitherto gone unchallenged.

The Firearms Act places a number of duties on Chiefs of Police, amongst which are that the applicant must be "fit to be entrusted with a firearm" and not "a danger to public safety and the peace". No one asked the shooting community whether Michael Ryan, Thomas Hamilton, or Jake Davison amongst others should lawfully possess firearms, those decisions were absolutely made by their respective FLDs, so why should the law-abiding shooting community be held responsible for these most serious of mistakes made by grossly incompetent public servants?

I might be wrong but are there two queues at the firearms department, mine went through very easily as I use mine for my work and don't " chop and change " my guns and just want to get out and shoot.
and possibly another one for the ones who want to change guns and calibers on a frequent basis thus causing a backlog.
in my previous trade if you were a constant mitherer you got put to the back of the list.
People like to chop and change, what’s wrong with that. Renewal is a good time to get additional authorities as they are included in the cost. I don’t think you are right either way, mine isn’t needed for work, though they know I am a very active shooter. But I did add 4 authorities to posses and change some ammunition around, still sorted in 8 weeks.

Thanks to those who responded to my post. Interesting that none of the Southern Counties were mentioned. Hampshire not doing very well at all by all accounts but I have always found them great to deal with in the past. Lets see how long it takes for my variation to come through!

Lincolnshire good . A friend in Northampshire ticket expired in December. Told they are just starting on last March applications!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've found them to be a bit curate's egg in the past but recently they've appointed a helpful FEO with bags of commonsense so hopefully the improvement will continue.

I went out Christmas Eve in Norwich with the Mrs, and I spent more money in 3 hours than my FAC/SGC costs for 5 years, now do you get more point that the service is unjustifiable at the present price range that it is charged at?

So really, it comes down to the point of you, either wait and be patient, or you have to pay more to get a better service
I have now been waiting some 15 months for an FAC grant. Had an email in September saying they could not tell me when l may get my case processed and l may get an update in 3 months (January 23) but am not holding my breath.

Getting tired of told to be patient, our fire arms laws are far too complex, we need a model like Canada and the process should be with one authority like Scotland, not a mish mash of self interested Chief of Police and pointless, ineffective PCCs.

May be they should relax some checks to get the backlog cleared?

Hmmm.
Copied from my post No. 8
Hmmm. Number of current threads covering this already. If shooters accept dismal service then they cannot complain when it continues.
As per posts on other threads write to the CC complaining and asking for an explanation and if they have cashed your payment threaten to take him to court for breach of Sale of Goods/Services.

I think it has all recently gone pear shaped in Canada, sweeping changes in legislation on what can be owned and restricting new purchases etc .

The plod are missing a trick here...fast track certificate/renewal/variation pay and extra X £'s for a 4 week turn around 👍🏻

The firearms laws have nothing to do with licensing. In regards to relaxing this will not happen I expect it to get more stringent. We still haven't received the iopc report from the Plymouth incident or had the coronors inquest. I suspect that this will have a major impact on the policy and procedures.

Look how efficiently driving licenses and car registration is administered are there lessons hndere?

Some Policy Forces are delivering an efficient service.

The remainder alas are performing very badly, and if they do that for FAC, I suspect they will for their other duties.

If the public sector had been more honest about their culpability for Dunblane instead of the 100 year cover up further mass shootings might have been avoided
