Which calibre to change too?

I will be reloading so factory ammo is not to much of concern. Is there much to choose between the creed Moore and swede?. I’m not shooting long range targets. Just muntjac and roe at sensible Oxfordshire stalking range. With the annual trip on the hinds once a year north of the border

If you hand load the Swede has a bit more powder space.
I have one load for mine that I use for everything, Sako factory with the 120gr Barnes TSX .
No complaints from either end.

If you’re reloading for a modern action nothing in it…

I stalk with a Swede and shoot 1000 yards with a creed! But they are very much interchangeable.

One consideration should be whether your trip on the hinds will require factory ammo. It’s a bit anecdotal but I’ve tended to see that if lead free is wanted, so is factory.

If that’s a concern, it’s worth picking something with good factory non lead supply - even if you plan on using home loads wherever possible.

If you are only going to load, then pick a bullet first that you want to shoot.

As above, pick what you want if rebarrelling the 243. If you have dies already, and brass why not just get a fast twist 243, or if you just want a change pick something you can get components for relatively easily and cheaply and which wont necessarily burn your barrel out too quickly (difficult if only used for stalking). Perhaps not too thirsty on the powder charge either ...

243win
6.5 creedmoor
6.5x55
7-08
308win

Boring but effective. All available.

For leadfree, I suggest @Virtus Precision UK or @Yew Tree Fieldsports as made in UK. Both are excellent, neither are compulsory.....

Other than PPU (whose soft points are just as cheap) where can I get cheap/milsurp 6.5x55 FMJ?
I have bought PPU fmj for my 6.5x55 from bisley.
You could definitely get it from Henry Crank (6.5 x 55 FMJ BT 139gr PPU Prvi Partizan Rifle Ammunition Pack 100) amongst others.
I have about 60 rounds here and I use it out to 600yds at bisley without any issue.
It’s not as accurate as my custom made hunting stuff, but then that isn’t £117/100 rds!!

I’ve never shot a 308, what’s recoil like compared to 6.5??
The 6.5x55 is more of a push than a shove. 308 is more of a shove than a push, but I shoot 120gn I’m the 6.5 and 150gn in the 308.

Both, however, can be shot all day without issue, even my very cut down 308 (rem700 with a 16.5” barrel).

So at the moment I’m shooting a 243 with 100g Sierra prohunters.
Most of my stalking is muntjac and roe, but once a year I shoot red hinds in Scotland. Nothing I shoot in England goes into the game dealer so I’m still using lead. The reds in Scotland will need to be shot with copper.
If I’m going to change calibre what would everyone recommend??. If I change calibre I will move over to copper for all my stalking, to try and future proof my shooting.

Hopefully nothing that’s going to smash little muntjac to bits
.
I will be reloading my own ammunition.

Thanks in advance
James
Most all deer legal rifles tend too mess up muntjac tbf . one reason i am starting a 223 build for copper CWD, muntjac, Scottish Roe
