Which multitool?

Cant speak for the other makes but i personally would get a leatherman wave.

I bought one just over 10 years ago and after some serious use i managed to snap the blade. Took it into the shop and got a brand new model, the lifetime gaurentee is great and the only question they asked was 'how did you manage that then?'

They are expensive (more now than when i bought mine) but as long as you dont loose it you have one literally for life because as soon as it breaks you can get a brand new one.

I've had an original Leatherman Supertool for about 15 years now. I've used it loads and its been brilliant.

There are more modern versions available now, but the Leatherman quality is still there.

I have a Leatherman wave I bought years ago on a visit to the USA. I have always either had it in the glove box of the car, the pannier of the bike or in my pocket. I have not used it a lot but when needed it has been really handy. It now sits in a drawer in my office as being caught with it "without a good reason" will effectively make me a criminal. The law is an ass.

I won't bend over to that law I have to admit, if I want to carry one, or a pocket knife for that matter, I will. What happens if you see a deer that's been hit by a car and need to 'stick' it for example, or would you just stand around for ages and watch the poor thing suffer until it eventually died or an hour later a stalker was called in to shoot it?...nah, I'm too much of a rebel to fall for that string of red tape...

I have the Leatherman wave. Not used Swiss Tool so cannot comment, but have used Gerber - which I normally love. Leatherman has delivered the goods time after time - even took apart one side of a bathroom one handed ( long story ) using it - other hand busy plugging the leak:D

Nothing more detail or technical than I just like the Wave over the Gerber tool. Whitby and Co were ( maybe are ) the importers and always were ( are ) spot on for service and backing up their products.

One day will look at stocking, but early days on that side of things for us.

Another Leatherman vote - Charge TTi for me - brilliant piece of kit. I too don't hold with the 'law' bit - it's a multi-tool, so surely I must have multi-reasons for carrying it?!

I bought one just over 10 years ago and after some serious use i managed to snap the blade.

Did exactly the same - my fault as I couldn't be bothered to go and get a decent chisel out of the van to lift a floorboard! I sent it back direct to Whitby and received a replacement back almost by return of post. Leatherman & Swarovski, probably the best for aftermarket service I've experienced.

Another vote for Leatherman, had three waves replaced by Whitby, when I sent them for repair, the also repaired an origional Leatherman multitool I was given, all new apart from the body. All done FOC !! Don't feel dressed without one!!

Definitely go for leatherman. Had a wave for 15 years, broke once after 10 years they just replaced it with the new version FOC.
If I had the dosh I'd go for the titanium one or even better they did a limited edition demascus version.:)

If you want a posh penknife then the Leatherman Skeletool CX

If you want a real tool, then a Vise-Grip "Toolbox" if you can find one

Leatherman, but don't do what i did not long after i had it, used the wrong part of the wire cutter on a fishing hook, it still works but it gets 'stuck',but i didn't realise they came with a lifelong guarantee, thanks for the info!
Cheers

My ex wife gave me a Leatherman Supertool probably 18+years ago and it has never been off my belt except going on flights.

Totally indispensible and the best gadget ever invented.

Must send mine back for refurb as jaws are stcky from cutting something v hard. Now the saw is a little blunt it is idea for cutting through roe sternums. Leather pouch wore out years ago and now in a swiss version.

Have a smaller version on another belt, but not in the same league as the original supertool.

I've got several leathermans, my favourite is the Crunch: works like locking pliers and you can use 1/4" hex bits in it if you remove the adjusting screw.

The only Gerber I've got is the Shortcut scissors, which I'm not impressed by, the Leatherman micra is far better, though twice the price!

Hiya, Definately the Leatherman Supertool....fantastic bit of kit...I bought a secondhand one at a car boot, (£4) someone had ground the knife blade into a sort of a saw blade...so, sent it to Leatherman in Cumbria for repair...all the blades were changed, and it was returned like a new tool, Free of charge...I lost that one at work......:(

I then bought one in the US while on hols this year...even better than the old one, and only $25!!!!! :)

I had never owned one until I saw a friend cut the barbed wire that his lab bitch was stuck on with his Leatherman. I ordered one from the web that night. A truly outstanding piece of kit.

I was with some guys from Herefordshire who were blowing out some tree stumps a while back, they were using the issued Gerbers. They rated them.
