I am looking at the possibilty of buying a FX T12 in either .22 or .177.

I have never owned a PCP before so I am new to this type of thing.

What are SD members opinion on the brand FX and if any one has any experiance of the T12 model i would be interested to hear.

I am mainly interested in the FAC version.

I can't comment on the gun but FX have a good name for air guns generally, if you are new of PCP's you will need a way of charging the gun, and being a fac it will use a fair bit of air so a bottle is your best bet, most fac guns cost a lot when new but because of the limited market the second hand price is a lot lower then that of the same sub 12ftlb gun, so I would be looking at second hand unless you have got your heart set on a certain gun,

Good points, I was always wary of a 2nd hand one as I don't know what to look for 2nd hand / common issues for a pcp

I have 5.5mm Typhoon that's basically single load T12. In factory setting I get about 20-25rds before muzzle velocity and longer range POI starts to drop. Filling to 200bar which is max. for this older model. Keep in mind the setting might be different for different markets, year models etc. IIRC the velocity is around 260m/s with H&N Barracuda Match.

With T12 your best bet would be to refill after each mag. I try to refill after 12-13rds, since my scope has holder for 12 pellets. Filling takes 2-3 pumps per round fired, from the original FX high pressure pump (it doesn't really matter if you refill "too soon" since it's just less work). I think current pumps with dual action have usually more throughput. I have also 300bar bottle for effortless refills, but it's a PITA to get the bottle itself refilled.

Again speaking generally, the only thing to go wrong with most pcp's are air leaks, most modern guns will have a pressure gauge on them and if the hold pressure the should be good, normal areas to leak are either the filling valve or the firing valve, (moving parts) and this will show up as not holding pressure, occasionally you will get the odd leak from transfer ports as seals degrade with age but that is rare, modern guns do have anti tamper devices built in to stop people adjusting the pressure/power but they can be removed, and then it is quite easy to change seals in most guns.

Interesting, I take it these things are easy enough fixed even if its a gunsmith that needs to do it?

FX are one of the best, especially for fac air because that’s what they’re designed for. The 12ft lb ones are detuned versions of the higher powered models. Probably better off with a bottle gun for a higher shot count if you’re going fac. I’ve never used a T12 but they’re a great price for an FX, I’d be surprised if you were disappointed.

I used to have a T12 Whisper in 12ft/lbs. It was very accurate and well made but I ended up changing for a Weirauch as I’m a sucker for wood
