How to be instantly invisible in the U.K. (not stalking related)

Try to spend money or have a service. Give it a go. Instant invisibility.

Mechanic wouldn’t return my calls, I had to go out to see if he was alive.
Electrician, says he will come out, then doesn’t.
Builders, never return calls. Got to the point where whoever says they can do it, gets the job if they are not stupidly expensive.

Ammunition, nightvision, gun shops. I HAVE MONEY, I am contacting them because I want to spend the money. They have what I want.

One gun shop, actually did contact me. He didn’t answer my questions that I asked him about the ammo which was the important bit, (see my thread about the 223), he also sent me a further email asking me if I was going to go and look at the gunsafe I was interested in as an aside from the ammo, which I went back and said, sorry, no, managed to get some ammo so wouldn’t be coming to look at this stage, but nowhere in his communication or on his website is there any indication of where the xxxx he is located. I mean, help me out here. Give me a clue. My physic abilities are limited, (ask the missus, I never have a clue what she is thinking apparently).
My local pub landlord, he is awful at responding to messages. I domhave good reason to message him and he does have good reason to respond, but he doesn’t. He does answer when I go into the pub and catch up with him, f2f. but that was 2 weeks later.

Jeez, if I treated people like that in my job I would get the sack.

I messaged Mr McKillop ( back to my thread on the 223). He took a day or two to respond, but that is acceptable to me and he said, I'm busy at the mo. Which is fine, he responded and I know he will fit me in when he has time. Now, why can’t can’t everyone else do that?

It's not rocket science, if people contact, contact them back, and if they are a returning customer, definitely call them back, unless they were a complete and utter ass who they do not want to deal with.

I could go on, but customer services, just doesn’t seem to exist and is a dying art in this country.
I do tend to support those business that realise I am actually a customer. I’m not looking for them to bend over for me, but, return my calls, give me good advise and I will happily spend my money.

Of course, there is one more possibility……………….. maybe I am that xxxxhead that nobody wants to deal with.

How many emails from might buy somethings do these dealers get per day? There are always two sides to each story, my pal is a gun dealer in Germany, he tells me his side of things.

So all shops should not bother contacting a customer who phones up and leaves a message saying I want to buy such and such Or I am interested in buying something.
If I behaved like that I would be sacked very quickly. I have to respond, even if it is to say, busy at the moment and will have a look when I get some free time, or, give me a shout in a day or so.
Ignoring a customer call is irresponsible, who is to say that that customer wasn’t going to spend 10k. Tell me why my mechanic didn’t return my calls? He has my xxxxing car. I want to know what state it is in and if it is fixed. He has just lost a further £2k of business between me and the missus and the extra work we were planning to have done. All he had to do was pick up the phone and answer. He had 23 missed calls from me over 10 days. To his mobile.

There’s definitely a dose of poor customer service going around. Been chasing a few items online with limited success, tradesman exactly the same experience as yourself unless it’s a big job they just don’t want to know which I get but a simple thanks but no thanks would suffice.

Another thing that boils my blood is collecting items or viewing them in person lately tried to collect a stove, wood, rsj amongst other stuff like sofas and televisions. Asked if I could come and have a look first and would take it away there and then as I needed things quickly only to be told they take visitors so have to wait for the next delivery slot 6-8 weeks. So they are either lying when they have it in stock or just plain thick.

I entirely agree with the OP and mirror his self-doubt at the end.
I do however think that there is a substantial problem of picking the cherries - jobs that pay a lot for least amount of work. I can get loads of people to fit a log burner but ask someone to do some pointing and its as though the well has dried up.
I have tried Trust a Trader - nobody was interested, locally the trades decide when and for whom they want to work, based on the principle of highest return for effort.
I would do a lot more if I were younger but if £1000 doesn't tempt anyone to change 20 ridge tiles for new then its going to continue.

I'm the same mate I tried buying a Schmidt off a leading mail order optic company and fook me after 2 weeks of chasing them I gave up and bought from another company!

It's a simple transaction I have money you want to sell something..... deal done!

I can relate , I have a gun shop 5 min walk down road, other other gun shops in surrounding area, Iv called in all of them wads of cash wanting to spend, I rang Henry kranks, ‘ yes we got what you want’ I drove over 100 miles to pick it up, all sorted,

Can relate to the mechanic issue, been using the same guy for near.y 30 years but he retired so had to find another local garage so chose the one where the car always went for MOT on the basis if it was good enough for my old mechanic to use it should be good enough for my needs.

Walked into their office & car booked in 2 weeks ahead & saw it written at the top of the work diary for the day, delivered car on the day just as doors were being opened that morning. Heard nothing all day & no answer when I rang, called next day & was told they hadn't started it yet, asked when it might be ready as I needed it for a long trip the following day, got a very abrupt reply "when it's done"! Did get it back at the end of day two but the bill was 25% more than I'd been told it'd be. They won't be seeing me or the car again that's for sure.

yep I encountered that when we relocated 20 miles, couldn’t get a decent leccy or plumber, car mechanic OMG that was a disaster I still run down to my old garage for servicing mot and repair work because he does the job and doesn’t rip the back side out of it on price wise

just very recently my Mrs put her little pop pop in for a full service and MOT passed and went straight through no conditions
they said they had been trying to call her re the car and but she had left her phone indoors - thankfully
it was a long list of work required I went down there and enquired how did it pass the mot with no conditions and you have a cost of £640 of work required. Got no reply from them just a blank stare

Anyhow I took the car down to my garage guy and asked him to do a pre mot and service check on it and a report in regards to the list I gave him - it came back as a full pass with no conditions and no list of work required and by the the way they didn’t check the brake fluid on the service which he sorted

my missis would have paid that £640 bill if they had been able to get hold of her by phone

I called back to the garage give them the findings from the other garage and balled em out in front of a load of customers, it made me feel better anyway

Mechanics

Use a main dealer for one of the “pool” - just booked a service ,,,,,earliest avaikibilty is mid April f f s

I feel your pain on these fronts - but just to give a different perspective, it works both ways...

My son is a Joiner & is trying to make ago of working for himself, and is at the point of still trying to find work to build his reputation. He has had numerous instances of folk asking him for estimates, so he visits, assesses, invests time pricing up materials, etc, suits the estimate - then hears nothing back. Not a squeak. Even after a very polite nudge. You don't want the job doing/it's too expensive/you've found someone else/circumstances have changed? All fair enough, but at least have the decency to let the Tradesperson know so they know where they stand.

Customer service in every aspect is on the endangered species list 🙄
I took great comfort in telling a chap at HMRC exactly that just a few days ago! Not they they've ever excelled at Customer services 😆

My advice - get use to it, be vocal, air your dissatisfaction, and dont buy any of that old "well its a nationwide problem..." BS either, if the person your talking to works there its their fault, simple as that.

100% agree, service generally has taken a nose dose particularly with big Companies who are making more money than ever even though they provide rubbish service.

Yep I tried to buy a barrel of somebody (well know gun shop) no replies to anything so I went elsewhere.
Some shops are very good and get my business as a result! Spud reloading always helpful

Anyone tried to see a doctor lately? Those mythical creatures are impeccable at becoming invisible.
I'm old enough to remember (54) , when if you were really ill , your doctor (who actually knew you )would come to your house to see you , on the day that you called them.
When I tell my kids this , they look at me like I'm a liar 😄.
