FAC lost in post, should I worry?

Approximately a month ago I scrapped a .22lr and sent in my FAC for a 1 for 1 variation to allow me to purchase a new .22lr rifle.

As always I sent my FAC with the correct forms to my FLD by ‘signed for’ post. I checked online a couple of days later and it had arrived at police HQ.

Knowing that firearms licensing departments seem to be under some pressure at the moment I suspected that I might have to wait a little longer than the usual 5 day turn around (Suffolk are normally pretty good).

Almost a month later (last Friday) after being unable to find a phone number for the department I sent them an email to enquire whether everything was ok with my variation.

I promptly received a reply stated by that my variation had been granted the same day it was received and the new FAC printed and sent back to me the same day or maybe the next.

Therefore I was told to wait another couple of weeks to see if it turned up and if it didn’t it would then be cancelled and a new one issued.

Should there not be more concern about my FAC going AWOL with a slot for a firearm open on it? I’m of medium age, height and build so it wouldn’t be too hard to impersonate me to gain access to a firearm.

PS. I have today emailed them again to ask if they would cancel the FAC that is missing and re-issue now, rather than waiting another week to do so

Update,
Just received a phone call and the FAC has now been cancelled and a new one is being posted today. They offered me the option of collecting it but that’s not really viable for me unfortunately.

I have had my FAC lost by the Police before ('found it at the back of the drawer' :fib: ) and also been sent another FAC with Section 1 authorisations on it, along with my own! :scared:

mine got lost in post, turned up a few months later, post office had opened it to get my address and returned it to me,they didn’t deliver it to police because they said id not payed correct amount of postage for the size of the envelope

When mine was lost with a full list of pistols and rifles to obtain and this was the old type that the photo was just stuck on I requested a new Cert number ! I was told don't worry we will just send you another lol .

I notified West Yorkshire Police of a change of address and hand delivered my old certificate.
They did the amendments correctly then guess what.......... they only went and posted it back to the old address :cuckoo:

What I fail to understand is that the Police expect us to send it by recorded delivery, to no doubt ensure security, but then fail to pay for the same to return it when the expense is on the other foot despite it being their advice.

I had mine sent to someone else and got his one. They just said stick it back in the post, just seemed that after all the security to get it granted it just get posted

I’ve never got my head around their approach to posting FAC’s to Applicant. Must be something more secure than 2nd Class mail room franking.

Years ago, I was once told, that diamonds in the Hatton Garden trade went by normal post as by "hiding in plain sight" they were more secure than if sent by the then Registered Letter service. People would target registered items, believing them of value, and leave the non-registered normal mail assuming it to be of little value.

Yes, but those envelopes didn’t say: “If undelivered return to HG Diamond Grading Centre Kent Police Firearms Department”!
