Norfolk jollys

@Stalker1962 @Len the dog I was going to mention the mass of obese tracksuit families, people with dole poles, sympathy sticks and mobility scooter mobs but I wasnt sure if I'd offend any if the yokels on here.

Next time I visit my friends in Norwich I'm calling by Thetford to see all the Dad's Army stuff.

I forget to go every time.
not offended, and you're not wrong. it was great in the 70/80s. if you do Thetford forest, nice walk where Monty's boys used to train

If you like Richmond & Chelsea, go to Holt & surrounding area, it has been economically cleansed of Folk locale. If you like Geek hipsters go to Norwich, if you want to see where the locals hang out in their ghetto.s go to Dereham & the NonoCulture of North Walsham. Swaffham has a good collection of itinerants, as has King Lynn & Wisbech. And if you like to see Essex people falling off boats, playing loud R'n'B & getting ****ed., then the Broads are a must. But for me personally, the jewel in the Crown has to be Yarmouth, its everything a Sea side resort should be. Its beautiful !!! And not a Falafel bar in sight. Only kidding, I'm sure you will find something nice, Cromer (Poppyland) & surrounding area, & if you like deer parks, monstrous stags, & a beautiful setting in the grounds of an old hall, book well in advance at The Gunton Arms, meat cooked on an open fire.

I don't live that far away at all and the coastal villages from Hunstanton and onwards are beautiful. Holkham beach, Sheringham is good with a railway running from (North Norfolk Railway) from Holt with steam engines. You can park at Holt get the train to Sheringham and have a wander round, life boat station, fish and chips and then get the train back. No problem parking.
Watatunga Wildlife park could be worth a look inland with the kiddies.
Church Farm rare breeds center nr Downham Mkt with indoor play area if the weather is rough.
Hope this helps

Try Watatunga Deer Park over on the west side, supposed to be good although I've not yet been.

Don't understand all the grief for Great Yarmouth, cheapest pint you'll find in this part of the country.

Went there for work once, a long drive to probably the worst place in the middle of winter, next to Ipswich, best views were in the rear mirror as I left. Mind you this was in the 90s.

We're stopping near Docking, Hunstanton nearest beach (I think) is that nice?
Holme nature reserve at holme next the sea, you can walk to hunstanton or other way to thornham. Not too far for the kids. Also holkham and wells real nice woods and beaches when not busy. You might bump into Glynn Ingram if you’re lucky too👍

Further thoughts with kids in mind.
North Norfolk (steam) Railway - Sheringham to Holt.
Seal watching boat trip. You will see more of the them at Blakeney than at Hunny. Wrap the little ones up.
Dog and kid friendly pub with decent food at sane prices - The Jolly Sailors at Brancaster.
Do enjoy Norfolk but don't tell the rest of the world.

I suppose that like any seaside town with "amusements" it attracts chancers and dodgers who imagine they'll be living the baywatch dream. Is the place not still full of migrants from foreign shores?

Glynn has moved now, so unless he comes back to visit Great Yarmouth...........

best chip shop in Hunstanton is Henry's always a que but worth the wait

if you want sea food, The White Horse at Brancaster is very good.

what a great review, yarmouth great place to get smashed with change from £20, like a weatherspoons on sea

We have many east European friends living locally and contributing to the local economy (unlike most of the benefit skanks)
Nice one, & GY has the largest Portuguese community in the UK, lovely people who contribute massively to the area. Check out some of the Portuguese restaurants there, simply delicious good grub & affordable too. Great Yarmouth has always been a focus for immigrants, being a Port. The Italians & Greeks who arrived decades ago have done well there. But the best thing about Yarmouth are the locals, always friendly & helpful with a sense of humour, its not called Cockney on Sea for nothing. Cheapest houses in Norfolk by a country mile, affordable rents. Historically & Architecturally it has some real gems, it was a Roman Port. Some of the best beaches nearby, miles of sandy gently shelving empty beaches, check out California beach.
I also believe Yarmouth is in the ascendancy, art galleries are opening up, a thriving music & art scene, Peter Jay (of the Jaywalkers fame) is opening night clubs & venues for bands, unlike the rest of Norfolk where venues once common are a thing of the past. If you can get past the tack & tat of the Golden Mile, & scratch under the surface, you will find a rich vein of humanity in its many shades, a welcome change to North Norfolk that has collapsed under a beige tsunami of boring vacuous second home owners in their Lambo's Rangeo's & gastro pubs. Yes, Great Yarmouth has a heart that still beats, long may it continue.!!!

I like Yarmouth but didn't want to say so in case I got laughed off the forum 🤣, I'm pleased someone has put a good case forward for GY.

Visiting Norfolk next week with family (10yr old, 8yr & 18months) & dog. Anyone recommend some good days out? Good fish & chips? Beaches? Cheers
View Holt's Unsold Sale or Sealed Bid Lots whilst you've dropped the family at Sandringham House for a visit! Then up the road for the sea at Snettisham Beach.
