How many of you guys enjoy baking?

Quiche.
apparently I make them better than grandma. :thumb::scared:

but only high days and holidays or when i’m allowed

If faced with the choice between learning to make pastry and going shopping, I'd get my sleeves rolled up and my apron on straight away. Shopping is much more difficult in my opinion, although I have now perfected the art: I simply hand my list to a shop assistant, and follow them around with a trolley. They are called "assistants" for a reason, I tell my wife. She thinks I'm both mad and embarrassing, in equal measure.
ive learnt how to make pastry from short crust to shoe pastry. i just really cant be bothered

I have made scones, rocky road and millionaire shortbread in the past to satisfy my sweet tooth, and also venison wellington and sausage rolls as options for varying how I eat venision.

Only made a couple of cakes, not that keen on doing so.

Well done @FrenchieBoy
Im now making hand raised venison & pork pies.

Going to use cloudy apple juice to make the the jelly for them!

@Finch tempted by some carbs?

Morkai's Pies has a ring to it. I can see a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall style market stall venture in the making.
I could certainly be tempted by a hand-raised pork and venison pie with apple jelly at Christmas with a spot of homemade cranberry sauce, possibly laced with a dash of malt whisky.

I was very kindly given some venison a few months ago by a member on here and ended up baking a load of Venison Pies. There were too many to store in my freezer so I gave a good few of them away to our elderly neighbours who were "feeling the pinch"! They enjoyed them that much that they asked for more of anything that I baked and had too much of to store in my freezer. With that I have taken up baking and find it quite relaxing, satisfying and rewarding when I can help others out at the same time. I now find that I am baking at least twice a week, Yesterday it was Cheese and Onion Turnovers, Sausage Rolls and Apple Turnovers, many of which are spoken for already.
I'll get a few photos done and post them shortly.
With that in mind how many of you guys enjoy baking as too?

p.s. The wife even bought me a proper chef's apron!;)

Edit: I should have added that the wife even loves me baking all of our own bread, both loaves and rolls!

I wonder if there is any correlation between those that like baking and those that like home loading.

(Years ago, I met a recruiter for one of the big pharmaceuticals companies and she mentioned that one of her interview questions for chemists was what their hobbies were. She expected to hear cooking or baking, both involved weighing, mixing and measuring things out, trying different combinations etc. And, indeed, I lived next door to a GlaxoWellcome chemist for a while and he liked baking. In fact he liked baking cakes but not eating them! He would give them to us to eat.)

Soda bread is very easy to bake and taste sensational straight out of the oven.

This bloke was on Rick Stein's food heroes.

l remember as a boy in Ireland watching a relative baking soda bread on the hob at the side of an open turf fire, large turf embers were put on the hob on top of which a three legged lidded cast iron skillet was placed with the dough inside turf embers were placed on the lid, then the wait until the soda bread was ready, the heavenly smell of turf and soda bread.
When it was cool enough spread home made butter and home made jam on it, a meal in itself absolute heaven.

Quite often I will make a raised game pie for when we have friends over on Boxing Day, also occasionally make soda bread (Paul Hollywood’s recipe is a doddle).
That’s about it for my baking but I do at least half of the cooking when I am at home, love being in the kitchen nearly as much as eating the results.

Although not into baking myself, I'm fortunate that my wife is, and I enjoy the results on a daily basis. I can't remember ever having bread, cakes, biscuits or pies that weren't home-baked, unless I've been eating out.
Wasn’t it you asking earlier if someone wanted to swap wives :cuckoo:

  • Haha
Reactions: VSS
I love both baking as well as cooking. I tried my hand at fruit cake which apparently is no easy job, but came out well
