Shooting club banned from community events in East Lothian

Prestonpans small bore target club has a very long history and has been running in Prestonpans, teaching and encouraging shooting to anyone who wants to try it for as long as I can remember.
A community event this weekend is taking place at various venues showcasing what the area has to offer in terms of clubs , events etc.
East Lothian council have told the shooting club they will no longer be welcome at this event and have effectively banned them from showcasing this awesome club and its facilities.

Utter bellends.
They can expect my ire when they open again on Monday , the ****s.

This sort of ignorance is what we’re up against folks.
Shooting is bad and we should hide it from the little kiddies.

I’m so feking angry about this .

I feel like this is another “write to your MP” moment.

We’re going to have to be hair trigger about calling this sort of crap out when it happens and register our displeasure in writing!

I agree, it's appalling. For the future of shooting, this is far more damaging than Welsh Government's proposal to licence game bird release (to give but one example).

I would be inclined to pull apart the council for discrimination. Is the local Judo club going? If they are then why haven’t they been banned on the basis of promoting violence…..you get the picture…

Not sure if you are being tongue in cheek - if you are, my apologies…but you absolutely can be angry as a gun owner…we do not lose all our rights due to being gun owners!

If they’re genuinely concerned about children, then there’s genuinely a much stronger case to ban military-recruiting propaganda than there is for field sports.

For far too long shooting clubs, shooting sports, organisations etc have rather tried to hide themselves away and sneak around the edges. We dare not upset our neighbours etc.

Instead we need to make a concerted effort to become much central in the communities of which we are part of, in just the same way as other sports clubs be it bowls, archery, sailing or golf.
