Trader sold me a burnt out 22-250 ???

my money is on the rfd coming back with a 3 shot group under an inch shot from a 22.250 and says there you are its fine BUT IT WONT HAVE BEEN SHOT OUT OF YOUR RIFLE!!!!!!

I've asked them to leave their scope & mounts on and let me have the remaining Ammo if that's the case. I'll pay for it/leave a deposit if required. I then intend to hopefully get someone from a range to test shoot it on my behalf. Ideally Diggle as its only about 10 miles from me.

If it shoots, great. If not...... well, probably only right to name them on here to warn others. We'll see.

I don’t get this “shot out” thing - does it mean the rifling and or crown are corroded/pitted/patchy or absent altogether to the point where acceptable accuracy is unobtainable?
If so then my triple deuce which has little or no rifling for a good third of it’s barrel must be “shot out“ and in need of urgent re-barrelling and after only 25/30 thousand rounds through it. Except it still drives tacks and only this very morning could have drilled a hoodie at about 170 yds off sticks, not to mention 2 foxes earlier this year at 300+ yards. Maybe I am just lucky……

I've had no contact from the shop regarding how it performed for them on Monday. If I don't hear anything, I'll be seeing then at the Northern shooting show!!

Well it sounds like you've had a really bad experience, however as said by many in this post the time frame between buying it and reporting it is not at all in your favour.
If it was me I'd take it to one of the more reputable gun smiths and get it rebarreled with a good quality barrel and not look backwards. Most people have been bitten at some point buying second hand goods.

Just read this thread might be to late to comment but did you try shooting a group without the moderator, I had a ne sako 85 that was throwing shots turned out the bullets were sometimes clipping the moderator? Good luck with the outcome anyway.

I rebarrelled mine in 6.5x47mm with 30" varmint barrel, and laminated stock. It looked beautiful, and was a joy for the 20 rounds I put through it before losing my job!
Rebarrel and enjoy shooting it.

A few thoughts.

1. As others said, and as the OP found out, there's no harm in talking to the seller and see if there's any goodwill there, given that most businesses in this industry trade on their reputation.

2. While 14 months is indeed a long time, before deciding that there's nothing that can be done, it's always a good idea to have a read of the Consumer Rights And 2015 (or check with a Citizens Advice Bureau), there are many little-known clauses there that can work to the benefit of consumers - especially regarding the condition of goods at the time of sale.

3. Re borescope inspection, it's always a good idea to ask for photos to be taken (most modern borescopes wil have the ability to record images).

Hi all. I didn't go to the show in the end. I'll give the shop a call this week for an update. I need some sort of decision though.

Latest update.

Received a call from the shop manager today. He informed me that the shop owner had taken the gun out and has shot a sub 1" group at just less than a hundred yards. Apparently, he has it on video.
I've said I'll call in the shop Saturday morning.

I'd be asking to shoot it on his range as he has it set up, (please don't take this the wrong way!) he can also ensure that you haven't got a flinch when you're squeezing the trigger. Accuracy issues can be hard to pin down when there is no proof that it doesn't shoot right from the customer. There are so many variables.

If he is shooting sub MOA groups with his mounts and scope it must be you set up that's causing the issue. May I ask what scope and mounts you've had on it?

I've tried three different scopes and sets of mounts and it's the same with them all. I'm currently using a Infiray TD50L Night scope.
It's not just me either, both myself and my shooting partner have missed and/or wounded foxes recently that should have been really easy shots.
