Ah, sorry, Should have gone back through!!
I take it that those groups were shot with a good 30-40s between shots to prevent the barrel overheating? Do you always shoot your groups out of the tripod and clamp arrangement, if so you might be putting pressure through the stock to the barrel?

Is there three different parts to the mounting system too? looks to me like a riser block off the action, then a pic rail and then some older weaver style mounts? There is a lot of bits in there that could move causing your issues. I'd suggest a good pic rail that will mount directly to your action and then some good pic rail mounts. I use Talley mounts and really cannot complain!

There are only 2 parts, the rail was supplied and fitted by the shop and is a one-piece affair. Can't remember the name but it was a silver box with black writing IIRC.

I left the barrel to cool between each shot. Sometimes walking the 100yds to the target and back. All shots we're off a bipod and rear bag.

Got any close up pics of the rail? Looks like an Optilock to picatinny conversion rail?
No pics as the guns in the shop. It is Optilock to Picatinny but I can't remember the brand. I have the box somewhere but can't find it. I do remember he charged me around £90 for it.

The rail is a Rusan. The mounts are just a mid range affair. Can'r remember the brand, they were about £50. I really hope you're on to something here but please bear in mind that I've had the gun borescoped and two different people said it was all firecraked and worn for about the first 4" of the barrel.

You have posted that you have tried different scopes and mounts, have you tried having the bases off and refitted, I helped a guy set up his brand new Browning X bolt and neither of us could get it to shoot.
Turns out that the shop he had bought it from had made a lash up of mounting the bases.
Wear and Dragon skin in the first 4" doesn't always mean that the rifle won't shoot.

Yes, I've had the rail off and remounted it too.

The last 4 inches are more important that the first 4 imho.... Another question, when you've got the scope mounted are the cross bars on the mounts tight up against the muzzle end of the gaps?

I've tried three different scopes and sets of mounts and it's the same with them all. I'm currently using a Infiray TD50L Night scope.
It's not just me either, both myself and my shooting partner have missed and/or wounded foxes recently that should have been really easy shots.
Have you used a traditional scope ?

Consider a complete cleaning with all jacket fouling removed, 10 or so strokes with JB Compound and try again. at this point you have nothing to lose. I would also look at the barrel bedding and signs of contact with the barrel and sand those out if required and re seal the channel with spar varnish. Good luck.

Latest update:

Called in the shop on Saturday. Spoke with the owner who took the gun out. Showed me a pic on his phone of 5 shots he'd put through it at around 85 yards. 40 grain federal I believe.
The 'group' was shocking, about 2" or so. When I told him that was shocking, he started to explain that the 'first shot was high, so I adjusted the scope, then the second shot was' .................. Stop there I said. You weren't supposed to be zeroing it, you were supposed to be shooting a group to check for shot consistency. He didn't even take my moderator but took one from the shop!!

Some of the other things we discussed were how many different sets/brands of scopes and mounts I'd tried, different ammo, how I zeroed it etc. Off a bipod and bag, I explained.
Then questioned my shooting style and experience.

Then things got silly and I had to really bite my lip..... Grrrrrr

He asked me if I wore my reading glasses when shooting. Erm, no, they're for reading. Then told me I should!!! (What a Bell smacker)
He also told me fixed mag scopes are more accurate than scopes with a zoom.

At this point, I told him I shoot much better groups at 100yds with my CZ 17 Hmr and went back to the barrel condition. Despite my rigorous cleaning and the fact that 2 separate people at another gun shop have said it's fire cracked and worn, he's adamant it's just heavy copper fouling. With that said, I've asked if it can be scoped again and a digital recording sent to me.= to which he has agreed.

He's taking it back out sometime this week, but I think I know the answer already because he's told me 'It'll be the moderator, definitely'.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

Cheers,
Geoff.

Geoff

I think it’s clear where this is leading, good on you for taking up the battle, but it smells like you won’t get anywhere.

Maybe cut-losses time and treat yourself to a brand new rifle

Been following this from the beginning, but like a few on here have said before me far too much time has now passed, feel your on a hiding to nowhere on this one.

You have now been flogging this dead horse for a further month since original post, take it on the chin, rebarrel/sell as a project and move on, let it be it a lesson learned the hard way !
