Anyone been using these ?
Had a somewhat different result than i expected last night , having been working on a load in my 1-12 sako in 223 i have worked out a sweet load ( 1/2" at up to 200 yards). Decided put the zero 2" high at 100 yards , looking for the 4" tunnel for Roe and other legal species . ( not bad for a sh rifle rifle of maybe 20 years old ish eh?)
Now at present the field at home has too much vegetation after that meant my next clear area was 350 yards , so i put out a nice big target to collate some drops ( somewhat passed the window i will use said rifle on my chosen quarry ) ...... Coulnt get the damb things on paper nor find any bullet strikes !
Have seen this before that bullets can just loose stability but i would not expect it at just 350 with a 50 grain bullet , if it wasnt so tight at 200 i would have had my doubts that a bullet could loose the plot traveling another 150 but am aware copper will loose energy faster than lead
Has anyone any experiance in these or other light copper ? I shoot as low as 100 grain TTSX in the 260 and that is just incredible , i have also seen many 22rf bullets just simply loose it at a certain range window ( todays eley subs hit a wall around 80 yards in my cz 452 ) before that they are dead nuts on it though and the old ones i shot well to 130 yards
Its not a big bother really i can just shorten up the range on the deer but i do like some reserve in the tank just in case something goes wrong at some time
I realise twist rate and velocity combined matter but i wasn't even getting the thing on paper and it was neat perfect conditions

I had this with Barnes ttsx 50 grain, until I removed the tips.
Although not quite as bad as you say above, they were definitely not as stable with the tips in place.

the ecx have more a plug than a tip as such . thing is they are very good to 200 , thats the confusing bit

I would find out where the bullets are shooting before guessing what's happening. I think it's maybe just a matter of getting the correct elevation rather than the bullets suddenly becoming unstable.

I reckon @takbok is right, I use the ecx in .30-06 and they’re a great bullet as far as terminal ballistics goes but have a woeful BC, they will drop like a stone. I shot a fallow at 270m and hit it low in the chest, but I was aiming level with the bottom of the neck, probably 8 inches of drop

I mean, any bullet that shoots a half inch group at 200m is a fantastic combination, I don’t own any rifles that will do that and I’m more than happy with mine.

yeah , I am not going to be using them at that sort of range from the get go . Just looking at what range i can shoot at and that was never going to be 350 yards but i want 100 yards further than my maximum hunting range so i have a good enough opportunity to put right a potential mistake .
Will wait till conditions are good to shoot to 250 - 300 and see where things are taking a turn . i really havent seen drops like this before but then the lightest copper i have shot previous is 100 grain ttsx and i can still make very good accuraccy with those well past 400
it is what it it is my longer term plan for the rifles future is a fast twist 1-7.5 or 1-8 for long/ heavy for caliber copper just having some fun with it first

of course it is but if i have a rifle that's incapable a reasonable way after that range would need reducing to well under that distance to my own way of thinking ethics wise i have to have 4" max at least 100 further say

I dont understand the thinking behind that.
You can shoot , a frankly incredible 1/4 MOA at 200m , which most on here are going to scratching their heads at , yet because at 350m , which is not the range youre going to be taking live quarry , you cant get on paper, youre disappointed ?
Why didnt you increase the range past 200 in 25m increments , and see where it falls down ?
