Anyone have a HWV near Stroud, Glos?

Hi all,

Anyone in Stroud area have a Wirehair Vizsla (or few) that might be a good introduction to someone wanting to meet one of the lovely animals? Look like they could be a great dog for my family, but the wife and I haven't met many. Would be of great help, as don't want to dive into it blind of course, having mainly read online about them (and a friend has a pair, but that's a small sample group of course).

Looking at breeders locally there seem to be a Stroudwater KC kennel name, which is promising, and then some kennels down by Marlborough (Zoltarous?) but any leads (no pun intended) would be much appreciated.

Cheers 🍺

I can’t help you with a meet-up unless you’re coming up to Aberdeenshire, but rest assured that they are a lovely breed. We like them so much that we hope to get a second soon.
Vizslas are slightly quirky. Any vizsla that comes home with you will see themselves as part of the family and not really a dog. Their comfort will be one of their main concerns and good luck with keeping them off the sofa. Eventually we gave up with the sofa in the kitchen/family room because it was a constant battle.
Ours is gentle with kids and soft. They like company and interaction, and they’re keen to please. I have found mine to be an effective deer dog too.

They can be vocal and like my ex like the last word 🤦🤷😂😂😂
I lost mine a while back and miss him.
Make sure a pup you get are off health tested parents.
There was a litter for sale nr me in North wales

Totally agree with this post. You are welcome to meet mine but I’m a good few hours north! Have you tried the HWV society?

Thanks Feugh. Am I right in saying you got yours from Gonegos? Not up in that part of the world for a good few months alas!

Got my Lab bitch from N Wales, her sire was a gundog around the Snowdonia area. Cracking dog. Did wonder if Lab x HWV is a cross that anyone had experience of, as we might be breeding from her next year but she's not KC reg, so won't be making any posh lab puppies, but it'll likely just bring up the usual comments about crosses! I'm a fan of a bit of hybrid vigour though, having a soft spot for our Springador (the loveable oaf).

Smooth V 👍

Not in Stroud but I stalk there with smooth-haired V - great family dogs👍
Thanks wytonpjs. Seen your lovely dogs in some of your great writeups. I'm new to the area, having come up from Wiltshire, so if you're ever around for a beer/stalk/meet the dogs do drop me a PM 👍

Mine is a gonegos dog. Unfortunately Roy is no longer breeding since his wife passed so we are going elsewhere for our next one.

often a few to be seen at the Frampton Fair. (early Sept. - 10th I think).
a good little 1 day fair, well worth a visit, despite their normal queues.

I have a 4 year old dog Stanley.. we’re North Somerset and happy to meet.
I’ve always had dogs but Stan is my first WHV I would 100% have another one.

Cheers

I have a HWV and concur with all of the above. Very vocal will tell you everything they’ve done or going to do, great family dogs and relatively easy to train and they definitely need to be part of the family as they don’t like to be left out no matter what you are doing.

Have wanted one for years and finally the "right" one joined my pack 6 months ago. Wirehaired and a nice tight coat. They are velcro dogs always want to be with you and be part of everything, sensitive and don't like being told off but overall I am finding mine much easier to live with than the springers, cockers and labs I have.

Had mine following a trail i laid blind to her with a deer leg at 4mths worked it beautifully and brought it to me. Very natural to work with and pointing came quite early on and a keen retriever.

Hope u get to spend time with some and if you do you are sure to want one. I know mine won't be the onle one 🤣
