Doctors and Renewal

Another update,
Forms are ready at surgery, just 48 hours after paid the fee, they never asked for payment earlier in the process. Anyhow its good news.

The saga rolls on and on.
Got email from Licencing this morning to please chase my medical report. I went in and paid and signed the applicant signature a month ago to say I am fed up is a masterful understatement. Fortunately as its not my fault my certificates have been extended.
I wondered why the feo hadn't called to arrange a visit.

Final update. The feo came yesterday and I now have new certificates 5months in total all due to the gp delays in processing. Hats off to Derbyshire Constabulary who have been very understanding and helpful. The feo was very helpful too.

Basically since I last had need to see the doctor he retired, so who should I now put on the form for medcert as my doctor ? Do I just pick a random name off the list at the doctors surgery ?
Medcert are not your doctor. They are just assessing your history.
If you are still with the same surgery, they will be required to add a "flag" on your records.
As for the retired doctor, I'd state historically it was xxx, who's retired, in future it will be another Dr within the same practice.

First time I did it I had similar incompetent experiences. This time I did it all in person and smiled no matter what. No probs.

I've done the same recently & it took a week, the Dr said he wasn't going to charge me, but the receptionist said it was £12.

If you apply well in advance, say 6 months, will your application be refused because your medical records are out-of-date?

In Scotland, medicals dated up to 6 months before the expiry date of your FAC are accepted.
As usual, that may not be the same for other police forces.
I suggest you call your FEO and ask what the situation is in your force area

Cheers

Bruce

I had a similar debacle, dropped the form off, explained that the previous form was wrong and even printed the feedback from the FEO on how to fix it. Two weeks later collected the form after parting with £40 and on the off chance, checked it whilst still stood at the desk to establish that it was still completely wrong! Called the senior admin over, went through it and got it back 3 days later and £40 refunded for their multiple errors. So slightly positive in the end. Just waiting the minimum 6 months for the processing now :-(

Theres some very high prices from some gps but also some very reasonsble prices it should be one fixed price for all i think lads

Medcert all the way, great service and £60, until the powers that be get together and put some legislation in place ,afterall they implemented it,we will all have these problems. It beggars belief that with all the concerns regarding gun safety, mental health issues and what ever comes up that you need to rely on a service that doesn't know you from Adam. This service should only be provided by the medical professionals who know you personally why are basc,Sga and other organisations not pressing for this after all it must benefit all concerned.

don’t hold your breath for any of that, BASC encourages the use of a third party GP via their list of such approved GPs.
It’s only going to get worst.

You want the service provided by medical professionals who know you personally - so why did you have to use Medcert?
Does your GP know you personally and does every GP in the practice at which you are registered know you personally?
If that's true, then you must be a hypochondriac 🙂
And if the GPs at your practice were all anti shooting and refused to complete the form - something they are legally entitled to do - you would not get an FAC or SGC
The system as it operates at the moment requires a registered GP - ANY registered GP, to review the applicants medical record and complete the form showing whether or not they have ever suffered from any of the conditions listed on the form.

Morning Bruce my G.P. practice refuses point blank to sign any proforma UNLESS and I quote ,you are a member of the armed forces or a SERVING police officer, now that came from a discussion I had with the head doctor at the practice,so what else can you do.???

Bruce if as you state they are" legally entitled to do" so then why are so many of the shooting community having to outsource in order to retain any certification that they require, my point is this should be enforced, after all the doctors are not issuing the certificates only assessing you on if your of a fit state to possess one.

GP practice is a private business working to the NHS via a contract, so very unlikely they will be forced to complete
the GP reports which are seen as private work, just like medical for pilots, divers, etc.
