FAC air instead of .22lr?

Z Langs are good but way more than 30ft lbs. I chrono’d them at 48ft lb from a 13 inch barrel. CCI cb longs came out at around 35ft lbs but aren’t as accurate as the Z langs at anything beyond around twenty yards in my experience.

Try CCI quiet .22 target ammo , dont worry about them not expanding they kill all the quarry you will want to shoot with them and have a pretty short fall down range if shot into trees etc ( where you have safe visible fall down area obviously) There shoot really well just dont expect 50-60 yard accuracy when shot horizontally they are very loopy and not in single digit variation ( which most FAC air achieve ) 35 yards i would call max unless you shoot skyward into trees in safe areas ( remember drop is over the horizontal distance travel not the vertical )

Tried the cci quiet, ok but as you say, very loopy👍

I accept that my 22lr is just pick up and go and airguns are more expensive and complicated, but having tried CCI quiets and other low powered options the accuracy just isn't there beyond about 35 yards whereas an airgun will be Bob on out much further. At the end of the day I have always had a soft spot for fac air, accepting my rimfire Annie makes more sense economically and is probably more reliable over the years; paying the premium for the accuracy and flexibility fac air provides me.

In terms of ricochet I also agree anything can bounce, a lesson learned watching tracers bouncing around at night, however I would rather have 18grains shaped like a shuttle cock as opposed to a 40grain bullet whizzing away on me. Some segmented ammo solves this for the 22lr to a large extent but until rws come out with one I will probably still reach for my airguns despite all the accompanying disadvantages.

Same gun can however shoot subs , std velocity , high velocity etc and you can buy a decent rifle for very little cash . 22 or 25 etc FAC air are very effective of course but they are generally unreliable, sometimes hard to fix and expensive in compared to a 22 RF.

That's interesting. I should perhaps point out that I'm still using Z Langs from a batch which is about 20 years old, so that may well account for the difference compared to the ones which you have tested. The only downside in using this older stock is the dirty residue which they leave - there's certainly none of the 'clean burn' of contemporary RWS rimfire ammunition. Anyway, I'll soon be getting to the end of what I have and will need to look at alternatives, as my local dealer is only prepared to order Z Langs in batches of 5000 minimum!

Not a lot of reduced velocity .22’s to choose from these days. Luckily for me a couple of local dealers always stock them and one has just taken a large delivery of cb longs. I used to use Remington “c bee” hollow points but they disappeared a few years ago. I was told by the new importer that they’ll be available again soon? The current rws z langs are definitely a lot more powerful than cci cb longs. Some .22 shorts might be an option for short range work, again, if you can source them👍

I have fac air and absolutely love shooting it. It is an evanix windycity, carbon fibre bottle up front (great balance), biathlon cocking and 10 shot mag. Whisper quiet with HW mod.

It is the pin point accuracy I love, clinical in delivery. If I miss, 100% my fault. I decided not to go with a variable power rifle because of the shifting in poi when changing power, would rather have one set of drops to learn for each rifle.

I wouldn't ditch my 22lr for it though, different tools, but it fulfils a different shooting need both in terms of what/where I am shooting, but also what I want from the experience.

@Tdes exactly. If I could only have one it would be the 22lr (everything from close range fox to rabbits and rats) but more rifles allows for more flexibility and fac air definitely has its place.

i went down this route buying a FX impact m3 as a 22lr replacement.

after 3 air leaks and a whole load of time spent returning the rifle to FX i just asked for my money back.

you just can’t beat the reliability and simplicity of a 22lr
