night vision scope recommendations

i zeroed mine earlier so was going to have another read through some of the posts on there but cant face it at the moment, reading the poor instructions and playing with the unit did my tits in so its back in the cabinet for a while, nut im already getting the urge to get it back out, iv also got the 2 apps that i need to work out, and work out if i need both, my next mission is linking the scope up with my phone, then the BC, im sure once iv sussed it, it will be like my old pard, easy :)

Forget about the apps for the moment and learn to work your way around the scope and in particular getting it zeroed.
That's the same process you went through with your PARD.
Once you have that off pat, the instructions for using the ballistic calculator are here:

Cheers

thanks bruce,

id messed with it before i read this :) i zeroed it earlier so thats job 1 done, worked my way through the menu and how to maneuver round it, all seems ok, went on the arken optics app where you can view files and record from your phone, doubt i will be doing that, them my eyes were shot with looking through the scope and reading the small print in the instruction book, so its back in the cabinet for now, my next question was going to be about the BC and how that works, but you knew that:lol:👍

think iv sorted that out,
on the BC do i need to be in real time or ballistic table, and i gather the wifi connection is for the arken app so i can view my photos, and the Bluetooth is for the BC app?? Do I need to be in hold over or dial in mode. What’s the difference.
been a lot of messing about but a quick scan out of the bedroom window and im impressed, whereas o thought my pard was w%$k, but as there was a bit of street light involved i will reserve judgement untill im in some proper darkness,
thanks,

Keen to hear from anyone using the Zulus on centrefires, as most of the content online is from the airgunning community. I was about to purchase an Alpex for a .243 as they are now just over £500 without the IR, but I might hold off for a Zulus now.....

Same boat as yourself. Always keeping an eye on the latest and greatest offerings and can't make an informed decision until some "real" footage of 150-200m foxes etc appear and it will. I love the simplicity of my Vulpine. Spot with thermal, 1 button Vulpine "on" 1 button IR "on" shoot. It will take something very very good to pull me away from that setup. C50, Alpex and Zulus look perfect for Air rifle/Rimfire. Higher base mag of the Zulus is interesting though going forward.

In real time mode you have to have a continuous bluetooth connection between the the scope and your phone because, AFAIK, the scope sends the range to the app, the app calculates the aiming point and then sends that back to the scope
In ballistic table mode, you send the ballistic table for your chosen rifle/ cartridge profile to the scope using the bluetooth connection, but once that's done the bluetooth connection is no longer needed - all the calculations are done and the aiming point calculated in the scope
IMHO ballistic table mode is a better choice for most situations
In holdover mode the aiming point calculated by the ballistic calculator is shown as a red cross on the scope reticle
In dial in mode, the whole reticle moves so that the aiming point remains the centre of the reticle
If you have the PiP switched on and the ballistic calculator working, the reticle in the PiP is always in dial in mode (i.e, it is always in the centre of the PiP window)

Cheers

thanks Bruce, re watched the videos you posted on page one again, and realised the hold over and dial in mode, also even though you posted the video i didnt realise they were actually your videos 👍
how would i go about sending the ballistics table to the scope, think i did something like that yesterday after you sent them last set of instructions, and would you suggest hold over or dial in mode, of is it just personal preference,
a massive thanks again,

lee

Just read this very interesting thread and reached two conclusions:-
1. I need a (second) malt;
2. Gawd help us all if foxes ever get bluetooth!
Seriously though - hats off to the very helpful laddie up north!

I have caved in and ordered the non LRF model for my .223......just need to wait patiently now for it to be delivered 😂

not actually shot anything with it, other than paper targets to zero it in, and after my initial thoughts of it looking so complicated, its actually not at all, especially with help from Bruce, and others,
looked clear as a bell in day light and night time at 100 yards, and im sure it will going out even further, very much looking forward to getting out with it one night this week if ever the rain stops, looking forward to using the BC too, i saw a scope a while ago that had a range finder and BC and thought id lobe to own one of them, but it was about £2500, it was the Burris eliminator,

ffs, that came up for me but just thought it was a pop up spam so clicked it off

mine came from china, to the uk warehouse then to me in 14 days👍
Just had an email saying it will be delivered tomorrow! That's bloody quick 😎
