T3 Striker Spring.

Morning all,
I'm working through a problem of light strikes / intermittent no fires with my T3, .233.
I've had the bolt in pieces for a good clean and check over, the pin head isn't broken and I'm getting a good amount of protrusion at the bolt face. There's no build up or obstruction inside the bolt.
I've checked over the ammunition (factory) being used, primers look ok, unless there's a batch of duff ones in amongst what I have left. I'll cut the case down and double check later.
Now I'm thinking that it'll be better to swap the spring for a new one. Does anyone know where I can get a new striker / firing pin spring from here in the uk?

You can’t get replacement firing pin springs, you need to buy a complete new firing pin. There is a collar that retains the spring & sets compression, it’s an interference fit & you’ll see the marks on the pin where it’s been pressed on.

I’ve never known a Tikka firing pin go weak, I have one that’s been on the rifle for c.20k rounds & still good.

If you’ve given it all a good clean & it’s still happening then I’d say it’s the primers causing the problem, try some different ammo & see if it still does it.

Had the same problem on my Tikka 695 , took the spring of the firing pin and packed it out with a few very small washers, never had any trouble since, that was years ago, still fine ever since, I did make a clamp to compress the spring to get it off the firing pin and release the circlip that holds it all together.

Photos of a fired case and the unfired, I pulled the bullet and dumped the powder before taking the pic. Also one of the sticker protrusion.

Or harder primer. I'd be suspecting the ammo first - I'm sure if you do a search on here you're not the first to be experiencing this?

That's correct.
The left hand case was fired first, reloaded onto the second target - Click.
I measured the primer down from the case head at 0.13mm. Checked what I have left of this batch and they range from 0.09 to 0.13mm. You could also feel this one was deeper than the others.

The LH one was just about flush, after firing.

Just seems odd with the amount of protrusion at the bolt face that it's a light strike

I would have a look at the length of the firing pin to check for a witness mark down one side? First strike is central, other strike is off centre.

The primer will move back to the bolt face once fired so no point measuring protrusion.

Others have had same issue with Hornady factory ammo - try a different brand & you probably won’t have the same problem!

As 'CS' above, check out my 'thread' from a couple of weeks ago. Same rifle, same ammo. I had 5 mis-fires from one box ! Excessive head-space resulting in light strikes.
Anyhow, rather than repeat myself, just check my 'thread, it may help.

Just a quick update.
After reading Camodog's thread on a very similar issue I purchased a headspace gauge from spud. First, I checked the cases that I'd pulled and put to one side, then the unfired ones.
Well, surprise surprise, all the misfires are well out of spec. The rest of this batch are ok.
