Another thought of mine, a large number of acres could be covered quickly giving you an idea of which way to start a stalk.

It's just not the done thing to replace a good dog with an electronic toy.
Fieldcraft and an understanding of the creatures we hunt is everything for me.
I do use a thermal spotter, so I suppose I am being a hypocrite.

A deer has a good thermal insulation and doesn’t take long to loose its core heat after its dead. And some rain, or wet braken or a deer that has down a gutter, or rolled under thick pine trees and no thermal imaging will stand a chance.
A dog however has a fantastic nose. Thats why they are used to detect drugs, mines as well as dead deer or missing persons.

They’re fine in the open, provided the vegetation isn’t too deep. Though I’ve seen them fail with roe on open moorland when the heather and rushes are more than knee deep.
In woodland, they’re just as restricted as any other non-scent based tool! Line of sight only, which is hopeless over closed canopy.

I have seen things that dogs have done that no amount of computerisation can ever be programmed for.
A good working dogs battery will last over a dozen years or more btw.

Dogs are so good at this stuff that science cannot yet measure just how much they can smell and analyse in the air or the ground , even underwater ! Sniff out cancers , warn of seizures before the patient shows sign to doctors that its about to occur etc etc .

Thermal isn't the answer to a maidens prayer even though newbie stalkers think it is. My dogs nose can do things a thermal never will...
I like my thermal, good tool. A thermal drone would be a neat bit of kit but I am not paying £4k it. Neither of them will tell me there are deer in them there woods or where the tracks in use are or whether it is worth hanging about or moving on. The dog does. The dog has got me way more deer than the thermal. The bit of kit in the woods that gets left in the car now are the binos.

+1 my previous lab picked a partridge out a pool in a river that it had not seen go in, that had been missed by all the beaters and pickers up dogs. He smelt a rock it had obviously hit, went two meters left stuck his head underwater and came out with the bird. Unbelievable
I would put my dog against any drone in thick cover. I think you are overestimating the ability of thermal imagers. Have you ever been involved in thermal drone deer counts? They are very good for finding the majority of your deer in semi open ground, but you still miss pleanty that are in the thick stuff.
