Does anyone know if this will work I'm looking to get a light stalking rifle built and have the opportunity to buy a Tikka 7mm rem mag action but I don't know if the bolt faces are the same can anyone shed some light on this or tell me what calibers can be converted to 6.5 prc
Thanks

Is it all hype I was set on a 270 would I be better staying with the 270
The difference is small enough that it doesn’t really matter which you choose for most standard stalking.

I really like my 6.5PRC, and it’s the most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned. But that’s likely to be down to @Ronin building it rather than the cartridge.

The only really noticeable difference for me has been less drift in wind, to the extent that in most conditions out to about 250-300m, you don’t really need to worry about it.

Did you go heavy or light barrel do you load your own ammo if I do go 6.5 prc it will be factory ammo only as reloading isn't allowed here in Ireland 🙄

My experience is I cannot load more accurate munitions than the factory stuff, it stacks them ... (A Ronin built rifle).:tiphat:
I am having a second 6.5 PRC built for extended range shooting.
My first outing when using this rifle, shooting factory, was a Roe Buck @ 200 metres, knocked the rivet out of the shoulder and the strike was visible in the scope.

Nice to see the strike in the scope alright what length and weight barrel did you go for and what factory ammo are you using I'm thinking a light 24inch barrel tikka t3 action and pse e-lite hunter stock I like the new evolution stock pse have but its not available for the t3

Standard sporter (light) barrel, 24”.

Factory ammo (Hornady 147gr) is so accurate it’s almost impossible to improve on.

I do have two home loads as well - one lead and one copper. Also stupidly accurate and very easy to develop.

It’s an easy round to shoot - noticeably less recoil than .270 in a similar rifle (I can see the shot strike unless the scope is wound up past about x16).

If you already have a .270, it’s probably not worth changing. If you don’t, and are looking for something in this sort of ‘hill rifle’ area, it’s worth a look.

This is exactly what I have: 24” Lothar walther barrel, T3 action, PSE elite stock. Perfection.

It is a horribly abused gun and I should probably be nicer to it…

You have my mind nearly made up.
I don't already have a 270 no I have a sako TRG that I rebarelled in 6.5 creedmoor it's a pig to carry and I'm not as young or as able as I used to be 15 years of carrying scaffolding to thank for that. I went stalk8ng with a friend the other day he has a sako 85 carbon light you would not know it was on your shoulder and I said to myself what am I at stalking with a TRG so decided to buy or build something a lot lighter.

I have on and off shoulder and back problems, and switched to my current set up for exactly these reasons. Not looked back!

No I can imagine I won't either whatever I decide to do it will probably be a custom PRC. Just out of curiosity do you know the weight of your set up scope and all.
Thanks

What about using a Carbon fibre wrapped barrel on the TRG action to reduce the weight?

Thought about it too but is factory ammo readily available haven't seen any over here yet anyway.
