Hello , anyone here had trouble with Parker Hale cleaning rods ? I’ve owned some years with no bother but my .17 (hornet) one which I’ve not had long has now shed it’s cover , it’s shrunk by 5 inches and swelled up (reacted to oil? ) Does anyone have a different make they would recommend, ? Cheers, Steve.

Strip off the plastic coating, use a bore guide, wipe the rod down after each pass, and save yourself some money.
I'm not a fan of plastic coated rods, any detritus removed from the bore can embed into the coating, it's easier to wipe off a bare rod.

So the bits of brass a plastic coated rod MAY pick up harm a barrel more than a bare steel rod?? Aye, right....

Do you often find brass in a rifle barrel, I don't think I've ever encountered it, but I do remove some very hard carbon.
A well fitting bore guide with patches, jags and brushes that are a correct fit for the bore should mean that the rod doesn't contact the barrel, removing the plastic reduces the diameter of the rod and means that it is even less likely in the event of the rod bending.

I've encountered them in the chamber. Nothing like being pedantic....
Still, it seems most on here stand more chance of being hit by a bus than of damaging a bore with a cleaning rod as they don't seem to clean a rifle.
