Tully vs Perdix vs DOC150 traps

Would be interested to learn of users experience of using any of these for stoats?

Given the price of them plus the cost of an appropriate tunnel, is it fair to say that they have not been taken up in any great numbers. and that stoat numbers have increased substantially since Fenns were banned for stoats.

We run 475 docs and 100 Tully. I prefer the docs personally. Though I know other lads prefer the Tully when they've been set up properly. Everyone I know who have tried the original perdix have hated them . They did bring out a modification for them but still arnt popular round here.

Not used the Tully but the Doc is excellent for stoats and squirrels. Don’t bother with the Perdix, not had great results with them.

Can't go wrong with the Doc 150, New Zealand knows how to produce a trap. Perdix actually do a quality baffled box for mounting the 150 in. Pricey but last a lifetime.

From what I have seen only the grouse moor keepers are running them in large numbers. From what I understand they are very effective, and certainly give flat stoats

That’s an illegal trap. It doesn’t have external baffles which they are mean to have.

How many estates have you seen? The UK is split up into several estates you know! Most of us will have only seen a tiny number of them. For what it's worth, the estates I know all run Doc traps and the big estates with several keepers are running them in huge numbers.

Quite a few to be honest. Grouse moors are running them extensively. Lowland reared game shoots tend to run few traps at all these days, it’s all rifle work with possibly som cage trapping of corvids. I would imagine low ground wild birds shoots are running trap lines with the new traps, but low ground wild bird shoots are few and far between.

My boss came home from Scotland over the Xmas/New Year period with just over 300 Fenns, all used previously by the keeper up there. Putting them to work down here.
Think they've gone over to Doc's.

I'm sorry but you're making stuff up that you know quite clearly know nothing about. There are certainly a lot of lowland shoots that run very few traps but there are also a lot that run a lot. The fact that you clearly don't know about them doesn't make what you're saying correct. Standard SD 💩 I'm afraid.

And you think it's wise to advertise that on a public site? What a great advert for our way of life. 👏

I would think anyone with a normal turn of mind would appreciate the fact that an estate in Scotland is doing vermin control legally, not trying to get around legislation. Plus the fact that the same traps are being used to control vermin for the betterment of the countryside here in England would indicate that we're trying our best for the estate here.
If you have nothing to hide as you're doing your best, I truly don't follow your train of thought.

i would be interested to see the proof that we shouldnt use fens where stoats are present.
break back traps arent legal for lots of animals. yet used for rat control.
i think some people are getting over zealous

The Spring Trap Approval Order (2018).
The same legislation doesn't apply to traps used "specifically" for rats/mice.

The trap may be used only for the purpose of killing grey squirrels, weasels, rats, mice, other small ground vermin (except for those species listed in Schedule 5 or 6 to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981) and, before 1st April 2020, stoat.

The trap must be set in a natural or artificial tunnel which is, in either case, suitable for the purpose.
this is what issaid about mark 4 fenn.
for the purpose of is the important bit
set it for that purpose and accidental bi catch is rubbish luck, as far as i can see

So you have been on lots of shoots to see this yourself have you? how do you know I am making stuff up, I’m not, what I state is my own opinion but evidenced from what I have seen myself. In general, Moors are using new traps extensively, lowland reared game hardly trap at all (certainly in comparison to grouse moors).
