I usually pay via a bottle of quality Whiskey every year, however have noticed that more and more shooters are gaining access to the same permissions under the guise of "badger control" and not paying or gifting anything, these people basically turn it around to imply that they are doing the farmers a favour.... which yes is technically correct.
One farmer called me yesterday about someone who's essentially given themselves permission, and torn up a hillside with his 4x4, so that's another gate now chained up and padlocked, surprised the farmer wasn't looking to report this as armed trespass.
But no, I wouldn't pay cash, but do offer a gift as a token of my appreciation, and its a good way to keep in contact.

Fox shooters should be paid for shooting foxes, not doing pest control for free, or even paying for the privilege.
Either charge per fox (which seems fairest, same as mole catchers charging per mole) or charge per night (which is the way RSPB fox controllers bill for the job)

Whilst I understand if someone is desperate for a permission they might, but paying to conduct pest control is a no no in my book.
Even offering a bottle is OTT. Maybe understandable if they don’t care whether they’re shot or not (like a lot of my arable land) and you need to keep them sweet, however if there’s any desire from the landowner for them to be shot then any reliable fox shooter is the one who deserves the bottle or even the offer of money.

Yet when I raised the question before on here about how much I should charge per fox for doing pest control, I was ridiculed for it by some members:

In London it appears fox controlers charge £250 first visit then £50 per fox.
All mine is free as is all other shooting and stalking.

Many years ago I picked up one place asking to shoot foxs. He asked how much I would charge per fox. I explained that it would be FOC but in exchange could we shoot on all his ground. He was happy and we control the foxs and rats and enjoy all the stalking and alike. If he wants a version joint he just asks.

I get paid to shoot foxes.
I get paid with oven ready free range chicken's.
If you do foxing on a very regular basis there should be some renumeration for being sat out in freezing weather all hour's of the night, and likewise for rat control, it saves the farmer having to bait up.

Never paid for fox shooting..or anything on my main permission.
The farmer has said in the past he’s been offered ££ to shoot on his land and has flatly refused.
It’s all about having trust both ways so nothing is done underhanded or to put his business in jeopardy.
I’ve been shooting this permission for 40 odd years now!

I’ve heard of people stupid enough to pay for rabbit and pigeon shooting so I’ve no doubt somebody would pay to shoot foxes

Landowner needs a service? Pay, or substitute.
I would, and have, shot foxes to ensure deerstalking opportunities, but there is zero chance of paying to shoot them.

I wouldn't pay to shoot vermin. As previously mentioned its a question of trust for farmers. Are they willing to pay for pest control or would they prefer to build a relationship with a local shooter?

Well i wouldnt call it a hobby for a kick off ! I shoot foxes because the hassle /kill our live stock like most farmers i know .

I had a few large farms like that, all quite close to each other too, had them over 30 yrs. Owners even came to my wedding. Then in an 18 month period they all sold up and retired, new owners either doing it themselves or not having anyone at all as moved up from London and enjoy seeing the deer etc.
