I was just having a look at a few deer in a hollow on a large field and had let my little horror out for a pee. Everything ok she couldn't see or smell them. Took another step and up out of the game cover leaps a fallow doe and fawn. My little swine puts her ear plugs in and away in full cry into a small wood whilst large field clears of deer.
Out of the wood go the two fallow and three Roe closely pursued by a small black dot.
This was the only day without a tracker on, sod's law as she disappeared into a big FC wood.
An hour and a half later I observed a moving black dot half a.mile away in completely the opposite direction to first pursuit. It started in my direction eventually arriving at my feet and rolling over for the "Didn't I do well" fuss. I reckon it was a three mile circuit and she knew where I was.all the time, even if I didn't know where she was.
Only people with some form of dementia buy teckels, don't do it, they know lots of things you don't, and they use them to their advantage.

Love him, one of his sisters and his brother Berkeley are out almost every week after deer, another sister is doing some interesting pest control.

yep he’s turned out to be a nice well balanced tracking dog. he loves it

Thinking of another dog after losing my HWV a few months ago…I know these are totally different! Miniature Teckels, what’s peoples thoughts on these and does Anyone use these for stalking? As in woodland stalking , having them with you at all times off the lead?Not left in a vehicle till required

Ours is now 3. Lives 50 /50 berween us and my daughter, i cant stalk every day as work gets in the way but when my 4 days off come round shes with me. A wonderful little dog with a mind of her own, walks to heel off lead but can i trust her 100 percent.lol . not when there are 50 plus hare on the land i shoot each one wanting to take her off for a run.

its a teckel.. They are in charge of you.

Get one. You wont ever go back and if you find a good breeder near lincs. Let me know as Radish needs a work colleague.

Ive one of the standard pups Keith bred this year. At 6 months shes calm, very watchful on her surroundings will sit and survey a good distance, mute at the ankle and is showing great tracking/scenting skills. All of this is what i hoped for but shes plenty of confidence will hunt harsh ground as well as my cockers and springers .. as a stalker i want a 4 legged partner that will find quarry if heaven forbid it runs once shot, will quietly indicate if quarry is scented and most importantly be quiet and patient whilst im standing. Research is the key on litters being bred and trusting breeding that brings in some quality show lines. It had certainly worked for my Hazelglade pup and am i pleased yes definately.

Thought I’d update this thread for anyone looking for a Teckel.

And out in a woodland for a walk round with the forestry manager , just a chat about numbers , what may or may not need done ( place borders one of my permissions and he wanted a chat)

Mrs Rake tags along with the two satans and the lurcher , so takes them off to a plantation that’s closed in.

Anyhoo half hour later I’m standing showing him the new thermal and as he ooo’s and ahhh’s at the techy marvel 2 Roe come into view for him to look at,, closely followed by satan number 1 at full feking chat squealing like the wee bastard that he is . I deftly jump in his way but he just swerves round me and is off into the forest.

No point denying he was mine as I had roared his name as he passed
Guy was good about it but feck me talk about wishing the ground would open up etc etc .
Lengthy spell in jail for the little git!

Training continues for 'Gem', she is just over 7 months but, so far......she remains very steady. Next steps introduction to shot and high seat training.

Couple pics of my wee 'Freckle' rehomed her couple months back, doing well, loves being out & about, phenomenal nose on her, quite happy to walk/stalk until she gets the scent of something then the whimpering begins, whether I'd trust her recall at this stage is still up for debate (currently in the market for GPS tracker - just in case) quite happy to walk off lead @ heel etc around local park/fields, where recall is good, whether she would come back whilst at full chatter chasing something, I'd rather much doubt at this stage.

Black mark against her in as much as pet/domestic ducks that just wander about in the back garden, we now have 1 less than we did a week ago, Freckle must have thought, oops he's taken his eye off me, I'm having one of those, whoosh all over in 10secs flat, quick rag doll, ducks neck broken.

So wife has now barred her from being out the back off a leash after I received the full 'I don't blame the dog, it's 100% your fault speech' but love her to bits she's a great wee companion when out, wouldn't be without her now, but def has a mind of her own.

And yes!, Teckels CAN jump,
Those short little stumpy legs hide a powerhouse Popeye set of muscles, & a lot of earth work keeps them pumped up.

Speaking of earth work, Wifey was just heard yelling at the top of her voice from down the garden, we now have a crater worthy of an asteroid strike.
