Teckels

Protest at being coupled I think 😂
Our 'Hazel', dam to Overlay's 'Digger', even at 7 years old , will plant herself to the ground if she doesn't want to go home. Walk her down the road and she gets a fuss from people - same thing - no I am not budging, I want more attention. It can get rather embarrassing. Strange little dogs at times :-)

Couple pics of my wee 'Freckle' rehomed her couple months back, doing well, loves being out & about, phenomenal nose on her, quite happy to walk/stalk until she gets the scent of something then the whimpering begins, whether I'd trust her recall at this stage is still up for debate (currently in the market for GPS tracker - just in case) quite happy to walk off lead @ heel etc around local park/fields, where recall is good, whether she would come back whilst at full chatter chasing something, I'd rather much doubt at this stage.

Black mark against her in as much as pet/domestic ducks that just wander about in the back garden, we now have 1 less than we did a week ago, Freckle must have thought, oops he's taken his eye off me, I'm having one of those, whoosh all over in 10secs flat, quick rag doll, ducks neck broken.

So wife has now barred her from being out the back off a leash after I received the full 'I don't blame the dog, it's 100% your fault speech' but love her to bits she's a great wee companion when out, wouldn't be without her now, but def has a mind of her own.

Another little video showing how I am training 8 month-old 'Gem' to be a 'stalking companion' as opposed to an out-and-out tracking dog. What I lose on the swings I will gain on the roundabouts, she will probably never be a brilliant tracking dog when it comes to long, old cold or complex trails but in reality, the need for that, where we stalk is very limited. We shoot around 160 deer a year and might have to search for one, possibly two a year and the thermal usually saves the day. I hope she will be a great little companion, point a few deer that the thermal missed and a nice little insurance to pick up those deer in cover a little quicker than I can.

Yup, mine was on the window ledge while he was still palm of your hand sized
No idea how he did it.

The latest one also jumps up to the door handles as well. Wee loony

Morning ,
Can someone recommend a lead for stalking with a Teckel please ?
I need to order one .
I Want her to stalk with me at reasonable heel !
Thanks

Thinking of another dog after losing my HWV a few months ago…I know these are totally different! Miniature Teckels, what’s peoples thoughts on these and does Anyone use these for stalking? As in woodland stalking , having them with you at all times off the lead? Not left in a vehicle till required 🤔
I’ve got one, not a miniature but I’m guessing other than size they are much of a muchness.
Pain in the arse to start with! But one day mine just had one of these lightbulb sort of moments and now he’s good as gold. Wanders along behind me and sits quietly if I’m waiting for something to stand, turn, present a better shot, etc.
He loves it and I love having him with me - glad I persevered!!!

A quote from E. B White.

There is a book out called Dog Training Made Easy, and it was sent to me the other day by the publisher, who rightly guessed that it would catch my eye. I like to read books on dog training. Being the owner of dachshunds, to me a book on dog discipline becomes a volume of inspired humor. Every sentence is a riot. Some day, if I ever get a chance, I shall write a book, or warning, on the character and temperament of the Dachshund and why he can’t be trained and shouldn’t be. I would rather train a striped zebra to balance an Indian club than induce a dachshund to heed my slightest command. For a number of years past I have been agreeably encumbered by a very large and dissolute dachshund named Fred. Of all the dogs whom I have served I’ve never known one who understood so much of what I say or held it in such deep contempt. When I address Fred I never have to raise either my voice or my hopes. He even disobeys me when I instruct him in something that he wants to do.
