Tully vs Perdix vs DOC150 traps

So I can’t ever set a Fenn trap anywhere ever again?
Nowhere outdoors is stoat proof is it?
Well, I think if you house was in the middle of a city you would probably be safe. In the countryside at low level then you're probably breaking the law? A law that was brought in in 2020 BTW so not a new thing.

I am not surprised that Fenn traps have been superseded, they are hardly strong enough to kill squirrels efficiently, I would be more confident that they would kill a stoat.
I am surprised that the magnum traps are not considered effective though, I believe the 55 was developed to catch squirrels in America, and could be set in gutters, and I have used the larger ones very effectively in the past.
As someone else commented, I haven't seen a stoat for several years either.

@baguio

I fail to follow your thinking. You dive off on tangents rather than follow up with a logical response to a valid point.

I suggest you read the Pests Act 1958 and subsequent Spring Trap Approval Orders before subjecting us to your views.
My thinking is based on the guidance that I have posted which are the current law in plain English. No tangent required. What has a Pests act of 1958 got to do with anything? Shall I look at the law on Gin traps and Man traps whilst I'm at it?

I’ll be stoatally honest with you, I had no idea that this new law existed.

Just because you havent seen one doesnt mean they are not present.
We have many dry stone walls here, lots of mice, slow worms, grass snakes, occasional adders and many owls, but in three years I've not seen one. I did see a weasel once. We have very few rabbits, so safe to say I think, that stoats are quite rare here.

Their distribution is quite extensive 👍Screenshot_20240206-083932_Samsung Internet.webp

Would be interesting to set a few traps of choice in prime locations if circumstances allow on possible stoat motorways and crossing points or after a dusting of snow when it’s not been blowing have a wander as they can cover long distances.
Would in one area see maybe three or so stoats out of the breeding season and trap between high forties to around seventy each year and still find the odd brood in favourite places or where they had been.
All stoats killed with mk4 fenn traps with a combination of rails, run through and baited single entrance set-ups though down side been would freeze in hard weather🤷🏽‍♂️ edit. Obviously when legal to do so😀

Am sure along with others have found stoat using roof void/ attic either for shelter or to hunt field mice or climbing tree for chicks or eggs so basically been a croc of poo for some time regarding use.
Just to be clear my roof void gets heavy field mouse activity in winter as rural location and insulation provides warmth and shelter.

Also worth taking into account have to be aware that water voles are also protected and generally in decline and colonies can be found in very small becks and water courses in the uplands which excite many and are monitored and of course a good thing but like stoats causes complications to be aware of. North Pennines national designated area.🙂
Apologies for derail of thread have no opinion on docs etc as do not use but ex colleagues opinions initially varied greatly but think most agree better than nothing🤷🏽‍♂️

I can’t see how Baguio is a troll.
I’m genuinely interested in discussing this new law about Fenn traps and everyone has been quite civil here I think.
Always thought of troll as some form of term of endearment and as one member once claimed about that I had committed the worse case he had ever seen, praise indeed 😂
