Dog Insurance UK

Afternoon All,

Looking for some suggestions about reputable (and reasonable) dog insurance in the UK. Quote came in and premium for a two year old Springer had jumped three times what it was last year??? The little dog will be costing more than my car soon. Had one small claim for a bust paw last year but wasn't prepared for the hike in premium.

Anyway, who do you use and what are your experiences. Mostly I'm worried about liability insurance incase she gets loose and winds up local livestock/worries sheep.

Cheers.

I've recently taken out 3rd party insurance through dogs trust for £25 a year and scrapped the other pet insurance as it has gone up to £50 month for a 3 year old dog. It's not worth it as the excess is £70 and all vets bills and consultations etc seem to always be £69.99🙄

Agria for me. Good cover, very good customer service and will cover injuries while working, which not a lot do.

I have one of our dogs insured with Agria now 8 year old cockerpoo never had a claim
Started at £26 now just gone up again to £81 !! Gone up every year sometimes by 30 %

if you are just looking for public liability insurance, check your household policy as lots have public liability cover built in.

While you have it, its probably best to shop about every year at renewal to get the best price, that said it'll keep getting higher the older the dog gets.
I used Petplan for a while but the price went up, since switched to MenyPets which was a tad cheaper. MenyPets also do a money back thing every year if you don't make any claims which is nice.

At some point it start to not make sense any more though. If you have a good bit of savings then you are better just tucking away that £60/70 a month.
If its a working dog though things might be different

never had any,never will.
I've always had 3 dogs for over 30 years,do the math😯. your better off putting an amount in a jar and the bonus is you will have saved enough for a new dog when the time comes😥.
on a side note " livestock " the farmer will sort it out for you for around £1.50.

crikey - finally a genuinely sensible answer for the poster.

Thanks for the replies - I think John Lewis looks like the best option at the moment. I like the Dog's trust public liability option; however, I am a little worried by the "will cover working dogs, but not while they are working".

I don't make any money from the dog, but she will get to work (likely only 4/5 weekends a year) and the rest of the time I have her flushing birds to work on her steadiness. Would an insurance company consider this a "working dog?".

Frustrating that they will offer insurance, but not while the dog acts/thinks/or behaves like a dog.

is 1.50 the cost of a shotgun cartridge? I'm hoping to avoid that.

Hi Only my experience i have had my dog insured with the NFU who are not the cheapest,BUT my dog got hit by a car £4k later no issue paying, and any bills you put in is not a issue whether repeat or not.
