It seems that these days its necessary to tailor dog breeds to owner's income / financial stability, with independent vets being bought out by the national groups and throwing insane bills at clients. My income is modest, hence we have terriers - hardy, durable and usually able to live to mid teens without any major issues. Unfortunately breeds usually favoured by the hunting and shooting fraternity generally are a lot more fragile and prone to issues that are really expensive
