22lr semi auto vs bolt action.

hi guys sorry to bother you, i'm having to buy a new 22lr for work, its mainly for rabits and crows and other vermin out to about 100m and i've been debating on weather to get a semi auto or a bolt action, i've heard that the semi autos can be quite inaccurate but i think it would be handy for fast shooting, just wondered what your thoughts where?

Much more fun, pretty accurate if you upgrade trigger, much faster follow up shot

Ruger 10/22 is awesome

Only sold mine due to lead ban scare mongerring

With a red dot it was awesome for walked up squirrel

I think the mature thing would be to get a bolt action but the semi autos look great fun and I like the 10/22 with the folding stock because that looks really handy but it probably will also be very inaccurate

Semi will always be less accurate because of the gas losses for recycling especially at longer distances. Get yourself one of the Sako P94S bolt action from here and you will never look back.

^^This^^ I have a pretty reasonable spec target 22 (rimfire magic with Volquartsen carbon barrel, upgraded trigger etc and it’s not a patch on my Tikka T1X bolt action for accuracy.

I’ve got a sako quad 17hmr and I love it to bits so that tempting.

If you get an auto get any but a 1022!
Pumps are way more reliable and pretty quick to shoot as are lever actions.

If you want to hose the landscape, carpet your ground with cartridge cases and get a Christmas card from CCI/Eley/SK, buy a semi-auto.

lf you want to kill small game and vermin out to about 75/80 yards, buy a bolt.

I have a Sako Finnfire Varmint, the heavy-barrelled P94, and I’m keeping it!

I used a Winchester 9422 lever action with moderator for years for pest control and head shot out to 150yds using Eley standard rounds. I could load 16 rounds at a time.

I’d prefer to use my hmr for this but sadly the place I work dosent allow them.

I've had both over the years and apart from a CZ 512 even the most expensive semi-auto's are nowhere near as accurate as bot action models

By far and away the most inaccurate semis I've ever had have been a couple of 10/22s. Dreadful. One was pretty standard, and one had all the trick bits neither was the slightest use to me!

buy a bolt action go shoot rabbits to 100m , buy a 10/22 then spend a fortune tuning it up trying to get it to shoot as well as a boggo bolt action and never really succeding !
