22lr semi auto vs bolt action.

buy a bolt action go shoot rabbits to 100m , buy a 10/22 then spend a fortune tuning it up trying to get it to shoot as well as a boggo bolt action and never really succeding !
never a true word spoken bolt action all the way i was out with mate with his semi auto he said its the bee,s knee,s it was a pain in the ass

I’ve got a sako quad 17hmr and I love it to bits so that tempting.
Get a .22 barrel for the Sako and buy a .22 semi.
These Marlin semi's are good, heavy micro match barrel, feeds consistently, more accurate than my Quad and CZ455. Bit of a rare beast as not many we're imported but worth trying to find one if you want long range accuracy.

I've got five 22s. Licensing is not an issue if you can justify each one. A nice bolt action (I have a CZ455) for precision work, a semi for rabbits and rats inside of 50 yards where you need a quick reload. I also have a chiappa little badger folding rifle for discrete use and for having with you when you are walking your land.

I have two semi autos. The Erma werke M1 carbine is conditioned for land use and very accurate out to a hundred yards or so but only likes high vel ammo. And a beat up old walther g22 bullpup which was my gallery rifle gun for a long while. The other 22 is a walther target rifle for benchrest.

Without a doubt if I'm out rabbiting or pest controlling it's the CZ every time. Don't forget the semi will be noisier when you shoot as well. The bolt action is essentially silent with the right ammo.

That’s very tempting but I think it would be a massive pain with licensing
Not really.
One with day scope, the other with night vision would be a genuine good reason.

As for auto vs blot. I switched my HB 10/22 for a sako finnfire. I would not switch back.
The sako is reliably accurate to 100m for rabbits.
The 10/22 wasn't.

I've had both over the years and apart from a CZ 512 even the most expensive semi-auto's are nowhere near as accurate as bot action models

By far and away the most inaccurate semis I've ever had have been a couple of 10/22s. Dreadful. One was pretty standard, and one had all the trick bits neither was the slightest use to me!
Great shout with the 512. My father has one and it's stupidly accurate for a semi auto using SK Standard Plus.

I must have the best made 10/22 out there according to people on this thread! I can get a group of less than my little fingernail at 50 yards with it.
As the 10/22 is probably the biggest-selling rimfire ever, there's bound to be some good ones crop up now and again!

My"customised" 10/22 had all the gadgets on it you could think of and was truly something to behold. However, I just couldn't get it to shoot accurately. I returned it to the folk who had built it and was told there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and to prove it they sent me a target with a five shot group pretty well all touching. The only downside was that the group had been shot at 25 yards from then on it was truly hopeless.

Have a 10/22 Deluxe, for longer than when ALL the modifications came out.It was only a plinkers rifle then! pound and a half trigger pull, jam ups, no scope rail, no thread to the muzzle.I eventually made the modifications, it improved it but it is still no where as accurate as the Remington 581 left hand bolt action I still have and will shoot any' .22 ammo you care to feed it.(ie) long or shorts.

Bolt action is the way to go, usually far more accurate.
I'm sure someone will claim they shoot the eyes of rabbits out at half a mile etc with a ruger semi etc,,,, possibly forgetting the 12,000 they missed at 50 yards!
loads of Anschutz out there, and a sako finfire will never be a bad decision.
good luck
