I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a 7mm PRC.
For those with one already in their hands that are home loading, what are your impressions/experiences ?
Powders ?
Bullets ?
Performance ?

I’ve been following the prc line closely and it will be a good cartridge for sure. Personally I’d say not really needed for uk deer but those magnum men like a big one and why not. I’ve alway fancied a PRCW which is a 6.5prc necked up to 7mm which might be the perfect balance of recoil MV and high bc bullets. The dies might be a pain to get though I think cortina precision makes them.
Mind you I’ve never seen a deer yet that won’t die just fine with a 6.5 bullet placed correctly and mine is lethal to further than I ever shoot (should do the business up to 600m theoretically ).

Similar, watching 7prc as a potential mile gun, but the 7-6.5 might just have the tiny bit extra poke over the 284 to make it viable. Anything beyond mile is big stuff and big £.
I've no need of these chamberings for deer though.

I picked up 2 custom barrels last week for a Blaser R8 made by Michael Rainback. Both 17mm fluted and 22 inches long. Running 72.0g of RS76 and 180 ELDs we achieved 2920FPS with zero pressure signs and stopped as my target was 2900. One barrel shot quarter MOA, the other shot half MOA but was consistently 50FPS faster. They are both lasers. The speeds were achieved on shots 12-15 from new. It’s a seriously impressive cartridge with surprisingly low recoil which is much less than the magnum 30 cals. It’s so good I’m about to sell my 6.5PRC and 300NM as they’ve been made redundant.

I have a 22inch fluted barrel 19mm from MA Rainback LTD, factory 160gr CX runs at 2872 fps and factory 180gr ELD-M 2790fps measured, have shot a few sika and a roe all with as expected impressive results, as above, can watch bullet strike and recoil and muzzle flip is compatible to .30-06.

Load development with N165 has shown velocities from 2610-2860 fps, have found an OCW node at 65.7grains with 180gr ELD-M 2810fps. POI didn’t move much across the different charges and even factory, the copper CX shifted impact <1 but grouped excellently”. So far it has shot everything thrown at it extremely well and seems it is very unfussy!

Really is a great cartridge to shoot!

Have also punched a gong out to 400 with both CX and ELD-M which is effortless, punched the data into the ballistic solver and it just works! I was shooting a .30-06 before with 155gr Virtus at 2905fps and it took a lot more hold for wind corrections etc. hardly a surprise when you look at the 7mm next to the .30.

I like the idea of one but scratching around for brass and dies and probably extortionate factory ammo (if needs be) is putting me right off.
