.270 replacement ,like for like or calibre change?

I’ve decided to either get another barrel for my R93 or a like for like for my .270 bsa, so the dilemma is, stay with the .270 as a calibre or have a change whilst I’m about it.
The only ground rule is it won’t be a creedmoor, I don’t do manbuns and £500 sunglasses .
I had thought .308 but I’d like to retain the flat shooting of the .270.
Also needs to be boar capable.

There is only one way to go from 270, that’s 3006.

Theres actually very little difference between the trajectories of a .270 and a .308 IF you use bullets in the 130 - 150 gr range and keep to normal stalking distances.
Either round is close to perfect for hunting use, with the .270 a little bit closer to the x ring than the.308 in my personal opinion.
Yours may differ but I’m not listening.

I had the same dilema and did the same thing.Years of owning 2 ,270's one for driver boar the other general stalking. Went for a 3006 for everything, pretty much same ballistics but a nicer heavier choice of ammo and down to 125gr or over 200gr if you wish.

I've still got that itch! Had one on order, but Tikka discontinued the stainless Super-Varmint, so got a second 284W when one that I knew, became available.

I’d stick with the .270, it’s a fast, flat, accurate knock-down caliber. But like someone else said above if you were going to make a change, especially to something even more boar capable in .30 cal the obvious choice to retain all of the same benefits is the .30-06.

After speaking with someone on here far more knowledable than me and taking into account the advice in this thread I think I’ll stick with the .270 and look for a decent sporter like a Mauser , sako, R93 or something similar .

I use a 300 Win Mag on everything, and can highly recommend it ;though I owned a 270 for a few years, which is an outstanding calibre.
If you got rid of your 270, you'd find few rounds can compare, including 308.

As an American West hunter I'm fond of the 270 and built one on an O3-A3 Springfield action. I had the already drilled and tapped and bolt bent barreled action with a 2-groove '06 barrel, and an old gunsmith friend gave me a perfectly good take off 270 barrel from a custom Springfield build. The owner was re-barreling to 280 AI, a wonderful round IMO. Since the Springfields head spaced to a witness mark, which the 270 barrel had, it was simply a matter of cranking the barrel on to line up the marks. It was perfect and I needed a stock. One walked into our gun department a month later, a Fajen sporter with a Monte Carlo cheek piece and a tang crack. The owner wanted us to order him a new stock, which I did, asking him what he wanted for the cracked stock..."nothing"... A drill hole just beyond the crack's end and some epoxy, a little bedding work at the barrel channel and recoil lug had me set up. It was long ago, and I shot a very nice pronghorn with it that fall. It went to my wonderful stepson who shot a good mulie and decent pronghorn with it.

Whew...long winded.

What I mean is the 270 is Great!
Get a 308...
