Too little clearance? New scope mounted.

Actually I disagree. The hight the scope from the bore centre the further out is the first cross over meaning the second zero is further out also.
The mid trajectory will be lower too.

Evening all,

I know scope height has been covered before but this is a question specifically for the clearance I have here.

This scope is on my 45-70.

Just mounted it this evening with a set of mounts that give me clearance above the ghost ring and a good cheek weld.

There is very little clearance on the rail.

Do you think this will be ok given the 45-70 has a short, heavy barrel (may not flex too much) and the obj lens is still over the picatinny rail?

Thanks

I'll let you have a rip on it for a trade in BP shooting.....with the scope on it.

Although, I have kept the ghost ring sights on it and mounted it with quick release mounts just in case.

Sweet. Just a pity you used the wrong rings & mounts!

K
😀

I had a bit of trouble finding mounts for a picatinny that had a 12mm height saddle.

Especially hard when RFDs dont stock many to view in person, online shopping it is.

They do have the option of replacing the wuick release with bolts.

You are welcome buddy but I don't have much game shooting. Years ago I had plenty of rabbits to hunt but they've gone 😞. Your welcome to have a blast when ever you fancy.

Shoot it - see if there are witness marks on the scope bell

Scopes flex during the firing cycle - some more than others (calibre and recoil) has huge effect flexible materials

I zeroed the scope/rifle today, no marks on the bell, all good.

I mounted the scope and aligned the crosshair with the foresight. Took it to the range today and the first shot was a couple of inches to the right at 50m.

The second two shots were fine and at 2 inches high which is what I wanted.

Had a few at 50m, then went onto the 100m.
First 100m grouping.

Second 100m grouping.

Happy enough with that!

Took the Creedmoor too as it took a tumble during my last stalk, the S&B 8x56 was only slightly out on the elevation but the windage was out to the right by about 16 inches.

That’s plenty

What is the actual mm clearance here?
Having the same decision!
