Had to kill a baby blackbird today
Absolutely gutted
Watched it for weeks as well and spent ages chasing crows and magpies off the thing and then it leaves the nest and the Teckel’s got it.
Why the hell is it hellish to kill one little bird when you kill hundreds a year !!

Bloody nature !

Well keep the dogs away from it then. Honestly they would only be “ playing” without actually looking to kill it but the damage was done

I was gutted .

I know how you feel
We have topped the game covers today - to replant with wild bird seed to feed the birds in the winter - but i know some things will have died in it today and it makes me sad

My lab catches and eats probably 3-4 wood pigeons a week. As they take off, he jumps into the air and pulls them down, even from 3-4 ft up,, then eats them. He also stalks their nests, fledglings being a particular delicacy. He’s a beast.

Rabbits get it too, he’ll dig them out and snack on them whilst the kids scream in horror 😂

The cat just killed 7 wren fledglings - she’s just an arseh%le

Wee Dunnock chick got it from the Border just the other day, thankfully she only got the one and wee bit nest, the other three fledged successfully.
The little bugger has pulled the whole nest out before

That cat would seriously be having a walk

It was murder when I had my patterdales , young blackbird chicks often got snapped up but it was worse when walking in the fields they often played tug of war with hedgehogs 🤦‍♂️

Tis nature and she's a bitch .
We've had nesting Robbins here for years .
Unfortunately the estate is addled with cats and 3 years ago they got the parents.
The orphan chick's we got to wildlife rescue but didn't survive 😞
