Prepping for the new season - a very worthwhile trip to Essex…

Managed to pick up a truck deer hoist at the end of last season to fit on my truck tub slide.

How to make a truck tub bed slide.

While it was solid, it was simply 40mm box section into 50mm box so didn’t turn to get a carcass easily into a tray on the tail gate.

Only one person to call @Tim.243 and a plan was hatched. It coincided with me needing to get some ammo at Eastern Sporting so the invite was greatly received.

I arrive, quick hellos and the mast is off, measured and chopped.

The 40mm pipe is cut and drilled ready for a plug.

Mated up with an internal support bar inserted, the holes plugged, the join welded and buffed up with a grinder and he is done…

The boom now swivels perfectly. 👍

Couple of blocks of wood to stop it rolling about and we are good to go.

While it’s usable to c50kg as is - it needs a 4x2 underneath the mast to support my weight (14st) other wise the back of the slide lifts.

While I was there Tim also sorted me out a couple of tree seats he made - perfect for a couple of ambush spots I have in mind.

As if that wasn’t enough, when we arranged it, Tim said it wouldn’t be long until the birds come on one of his farms - would you like to do some foxing after… Having recently got an Alpex 4K LRF on my 6.5CM I couldn’t wait to test it.

After dinner we went to the farm, both sitting in seats near the pens. Tim obviously does a good job there as all I saw was a badger. Half hour before legal light he collects me and says let’s go for a wonder.

Two fields across we see two muntjac browsing along the hedgerow- make a few yards and ping the Alpex LRF - 123m. The buck goes down with the doe running on a bit. Ping 146m. Have to say that Alpex is superb - was like daylight looking through it.

All in all a superb fun and constructive afternoon. Thank you Tim - you are a gent.

Before the end of the last fallow season I "converted" to aluminium to get as lightweight as I could and as I can't weld Al, chose to turn a tube down to provide the swivel. Works well :thumb:

Saw these 3 spikers on a permission last night as I drove in - this photo is after they ran when I took the shot at the roebuck that popped its head up in the same "cover crop" barely 5m from then. From engine off to buck on the ground barely 5m and that included talking to the owner - back home much earlier than expected🤗 Roll on 1 Aug 🙏

Most welcome as the hoist needed to swivel (I have eyed up the tow bar for a MK2 fix)
The farmer is happy those 2 are gone which keeps the door open for any of the bigger deer who turn up and camp in the crops.
