Dsc1 & 2

Life experience is worth more than any qualifications imo
Thing is I contacted national trust about squirrel control , they came back saying I need dsc1 to shoot squirrels on national trust land , this is why I say more who subscribe the more we will need , not just shooting but in all walks of life
As per my post you are in camp 1 there are 2 camps

To gain An FAC no experience or training is needed just suitable need to own. Target shooting or pest control.
I am not dsc trained but I intend to go that route, there is always something to learn and it is a way of showing competence. Experience could be seen as, just because you have been doing it that way for a number of years does not mean it is right or even legal. Please I am not knocking any one on here it is just how it is perceived in the outside non shooting world. Lots of blokes in camouflage in the woods killing wildlife with no training.

I would refute that. No HOA target club will be signing you off for "suitable need to own" without time served as your probation along with some form of training/mentoring.

So they are a money making scheme at the moment
No, I don't think they are. I've got access to frankly, thousands of acres of forestry because of a tiny piece of paper with my name on it. The only way you can access said ground is with said paper...

Think of it as a door opener with the opportunity to learn something new over a money making scheme. Ultimately, each to their own...

When my mate sent me the video of the ground I said and I quote 'id give my left bollock for that'. @Kjf
All over a piece of paper!

Someone is telling you porkies
I don’t believe I was lied to at the time was 2009 when this person was my AW completing my level 2 he’s been a pro stalker for many years and still is.
Perhaps things have changed over the years from accredited witnesses to approved witnesses next time I see him I will ask.

Sorry but what qualified him to test you? It would be like your driving examiner not holding a driving license. Smells of something to me.

Perhaps under grandfather rights I couldn’t really say but I was awarded level 2 so must have been legit I have no reason to dis believe him.

I had to have DSC1 to shoot on Scottish Woodland forestry, which I do regularly but I did DSC2 for my own personal development..don't need it but no harm in having the extra paper trail..I have noticed however, that I get more permissions for having it.

Everyone on our syndicate in Scotland has to have level 1,and that's been the case in all the syndicate ground I've been apart of.
One member is waiting on his fac and is on the provision he completes his level 1.

I recently took some new ground where the land owners also insisted on Level 2.
They are both worthwhile courses and you will learn far more than just getting a piece of paper imo.

My class one test was carried out by an examiner without a licence ................... Crown Authority.
& to the OP, would you use a chainsaw on forestry property without having gone through the prescribed certification?
Would you expect compo from your insurance company (If you have such), If you injured yourself?
Would you prefer everyone had zero training at all ............... food hygiene for example?
