Tail docking a spaniel?

Oh we do. And get a lot of grief from the breeders of the dogs in turn.
Good and i really respect RCVS for that then. However its clearly not the same level of noise made regards to docking as in comparison docking is heavily restricted in dogs but breeding of mutant dogs for looks isn't.
Please understand that the tone of my writing is more puzzled than argumentative.
Regards
Jimmy.

That might well be a reasonable argument. A difficulty is that we have to be a little reserved on breeds as we don't want people to not bring animals to us when the need to. The brachycephalic (pugs, French bulldogs etc) and the XL stuff has come across in some circles as vets would refuse to treat them. As docking was legally permitted it was "easier" to support change than say banning the breeding of French bulldogs (or cavaliers as they have done in Norway).

It isn't the RCVS though, but the BVA and its divisions that push for these changes. And we've pushed for similar changes to traditional practice with the stance on castration and docking of lambs.
