The deer are rutting on FB but not SD

Buck chasing a doe in classic donut, just outside Dalkeith. Out in a field - saw it driving past in the morning, still at it 4 hours later when we drove past the other way.

It’s strange. Seeing more bucks out and about when driving. But absolutely zero interest to the call my way,(apart from one doe). Left a younger buck thrashing some ragwort the other day but that was the height of it.

Give me red or sika rut any day. Least I know where I’m at. Or roe does in winter. A nice crisp morning a no biting insects 😂

Nothing to the call in East or North Ayrshire yet but found a distinct fresh 'roe ring' on one patch last weekend. Not seen any chasing yet.

Typically my wife has booked a fortnights holiday from 1st August so looks like I'll miss the main event. Hopefully a couple of more outings before we head off.

Midges don’t seem very bad at all this year.

I was fishing in the Highlands last week. Warm, moist, overcast day with no wind. Expected to be eaten alive. Not a single bite.

Ticks, on the other hand…
Wish I could say the same on our ground.

The midge are horrendous this year. So much so 3 of us have now been sent packing by the mighty midge over the last week or so. Just couldn't tolerate them for too long.

Looks like things are starting in Fife - called a Buck in who was chasing a Doe round an Oak tree on Tuesday - came to within 15 feet from me using Buttalo. Also say large Buck "shadowing" a Doe in an uncut barley field

I've just spent twenty minutes watching a buck actively chase a doe. He's been shadowing her for the last 24 hours or so. They've been in the same area of crop for the last couple of days, so I'm assuming it's been the same pair I've been watching. Guess the rut's definitely on here now then

Only had does coming in last night (and a particularly daft fox that won’t be doing it again).

26th of July has been the date for the last 3 years that I’ve seen proper rutting activity and very good responses to the call in my local area (Fife).
