Should police land checks be scrapped?

My first land clearance inspection ended with me making a complaint in to police, this was over 30 yrs ago- first convo was- “ I don’t like passing people for rifles as I am a firearms officer and you may point gun at me” second convo was “ where do the foxes sit” and thirdly he tried intimidating elderly farmers saying they would be in trouble if any incident with firearms on the premises. Farm next door was inspected by a different police officer, passed no issues.

Either you have misunderstood the communication, or they are nuts...

Speak to the individual again, ask them to 'clarify' their position and your previous communication (you may have misunderstood).
Ask them to check (peer review) that clarification with a colleague.
Ask for that clarification in writing.
Submit (if it arrives - it won't) that writing to the FLM for their attention, and adjudication.

Sanity should be restored.

If it isn't, then you have the evidence for an appeal/complaint.

Apropos miscommunication.

I went into the surgery yesterday, to book a Typhoid Booster, in readiness for the next trip to Africa.


They phoned me back later that day, with the Nurse asking me why I wanted a "Thyroid booster?"

some effort went into that reply yep definitely heard right said land checks expired and even said it their fault that it hadn’t been redone I can only assume with the amount of land that’s is getting turned into housing they have a window of time or surrounding land that is changing they need to monitor it wasn’t a biggie just a little weird

So you can’t use a .22lr or a 22 Hornet. Just 17 HMR 204 Ruger etc.

Get a 220 swift then, it's a smaller number.

WE laugh and joke about it but it just shows the lack of knowledge and training or persons in a position of power with alternative issues.
Perhaps one of those situations where if it's in writing BASC or other organisations should be asked to question the decision.

West Mercia are still insisting on land conditions but are refusing to do any land checks due to workload and resource issues, so if the land hasn't already been cleared then it won't be, and if you want it reclassified for a different calibre then you are out luck. I have a permission on a piece of land with the Black Mountains slap bang behind as a back stop, but only cleared for .243. Can't have it reclassified for .308.

Agree - if you are a BASC member, give the Firearms line a call and ask them to challenge the decision.
If you are not a BASC member then.......err.....you may be on your own as I am not sure if there is another organisation who will even ask the question.
